Rationale
Yes, it can be based on samba, ftp, ssh, iFolder, any other protocol. But it must be simple for user - just right-click on a file and share it across the network.

Why not just start sshd, and use the ssh:// protocol in Nautilus? Works reliably, secure, in seconds.

It's often no need to open the whole disk, only one file.
