Idea #14072: Create a separate business indicator at boot

Written by qense the 4 Oct 08 at 16:54. Category: Usability. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
In Ubuntu Intrepid the orange bar that indicates the state of the booting and shutting down process now regularly switches to the 'scanning' state, similar to the download status bar shown by Firefox when it doesn't know the size of the file it's downloading.
Although this isn't that confusing at the start of the boot process where it already used to be, it can be confusing at further stages of the boot process. For some people it could seem like it starts all over again with booting and you lose track of how far the booting process is.

What I suggest is to add an extra icon, e.g. a small Ubuntu-logo, that spins whenever usplash currently shows the scanning bar.
