Rationale
Today there is an article on SlashDot http://linux.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/10/02/1933206 about improve the boot time to 5 seconds (CPU and disk IDLE). My sugestion now is obvious, analize this hack and probably use it, in case the hack is safe. There are others articles about it.

The most amagazing is that for the experiment they didn't use a super computer but an Asus EEE PC.

I believe this is being worked on and will eventually come in the future.

A note should be mentioned however that the Asus EEE PC uses a solid-state drive (SSD).

This is new technology for say it on some way. There is no way this was considerated before but there are ideas similars.

This hack includes mayor changes specially on the X.org

Eldmannen wrote on the 2 Oct 08 at 22:07
Seems the plan is to make a computer with normal hard disk not take more than 10 seconds to boot.
I am looking forward to it.

There are some patches for the kernel out. I guess sooner or later, they will be integrated into mainstream.

Faryshta wrote on the 2 Oct 08 at 22:15
Well I hope so really but will need to check if it's safe. I mean there are mayor changes on X.org which can make some other bug and there are also to compile almost every module on the kernel. Modules like Wifi load AFTER the desktop enviroment.

But still a fantastic idea, jejeje.

DUPLICATE

Not even just a duplicate... this is on the *first* page of "most popular ideas ever"

Remco wrote on the 3 Oct 08 at 01:02
This is not a duplicate. This is a specific way to get booting down to 5 seconds.

Craig73 wrote on the 3 Oct 08 at 01:38
If I understand correctly, the problem to be solved is how fast Ubuntu boots. This is the same as Idea #42 amongst others - so this is another solution to the same problem.

I'm not suggesting it isn't a good idea... just that your comments should be added to the original idea.

Faryshta wrote on the 3 Oct 08 at 01:49
Is different. They asked about boot fast and I am giving some links about how to do it. Maybe the hacks are not secures and wont be implemented but is different to say "LETS PLAY FOOTBALL" to "I KNOW WHERE TO BUY THE BALL".

Thanks for commenting :-)

bighi wrote on the 3 Oct 08 at 02:55
It's not exactly different.

"I know hot to buy the ball" should be a comment on the "let's play football" idea.

They're suggesting to speed up boot. If you just want to say how to do it, put a comment on that idea with links.

We really don't need thousands of duplicated ideas.

bighi wrote on the 3 Oct 08 at 02:56
I meant to write "how" instead of "hot" on the second line of the previous post.

bighi wrote on the 3 Oct 08 at 02:56
Can we pretend I said "where", instead of "how"?

LOL I have to sleep
