Idea #13841: Add right-click mount/unmount option for BIN/CUE, ISO, etc. files in Nautilus

Written by brettalton the 28 Sep 08 at 23:39. Related project: Nautilus. Status: New
Rationale
Mounting a .iso or .cue (and bin) CD image - as far as I know (I heard KDE might have this) - is not integrated into any operating system at the moment (Windows, Mac, Linux, etc.).

For most, they have to install a third-party - hopefully free - image mounting program. Alcohol 120%, Daemon Tools, etc.

I propose that Canonical helps create a right-click feature that enables users to mount and unmount CD images (BIN/CUE, ISO, DMG, etc.) in GNOME and KDE.

If such a program or add-on already exists, then I suggest having it readily available for users in the repositories, or in the case of an add-on for Nautilus, installed by default.

ISO's (and DMG's) can be mounted in OSX by double clicking. And daemon tools in Windows has adware bundled now (but there are others).

In fact, OSX handles disk images (and installing apps) so well and easily, that most software is deployed using disk images rather then Zip files.
