Description
It would be nice for a mechanism that would automatically retrieve the newest FGLRX driver from AMD/ATI and install it, including the configuration of the xorg.conf file.

Envy does the driver install in an easy way...

I think that those resources should go to programming on radeonhd.

Envy does this and breaks with no respect for the package management system. The restricted drivers manager also does this with the current tested drivers.

My issue with the restricted driver is it is no where near a current driver. I like to run the newest available driver and would like a better system for updating to the newest driver than what exists. I have tried Envy in the past and wasn't overly impressed. I also hope that Ubuntu can handle this without breaking anything. (I know I'm wishing for a LOT hear!)

You can't have your cake and eat it too. You can have stable tested drivers, or the newest and latest drivers, but not both.
