Plus, I saw XP's theme, it is ugly because of the area used just to show rounded stuff, unreasonably big windows headers,...

Not everyone loves docks. However, I think it would be a must in order to get ahead of the others. A new theme (or a few new themes) to be included.

Sure, the gnome theme is alright, clean, etc.. but it gets boring fast, because all other distributions with gnome are using it as their default, too.

I am almost 100%+1 positive that you can find a few artists who already have some quality theme packs, icon packs, and cursors, who would freely contribute in order to make the overall feel and experience of Ubuntu a bit more unique.

Some of the themes currently built-in should be taken out. I have not seen/heard of a single person using the high-negative themes...

I don't believe that the entire Africa is brown and orange -so stop saying that you have to use those colors because of the origin of the distro.

In the Artwork there are beautiful themes such as Dust ( https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Incoming/DustTheme?action=show&redirect=Artwork%2FIncoming%2FIntrepid%2FDustTheme ).

I'm not saying you should remove the existing themes -you could just put Dust (or any other NICE theme) by default and the old themes in System -> Aspect (or viceversa).

Having default transparency would be bad because:
1- it requires a graphic card powerful enough (even if it's a half-notch over integrated GPU)
2- Looks too much like Vista, which I find cluttered and unclear on the eye.

The mockup of What "Wood" theme would be is pretty cool, too.

Priorities should be:

1. Hardware compatibility
2. Usability
3. Stability

We already have hundreds of themes and skins that can make it look like whatever you want. Looks are irrelevant. The reason people would rather use Windows than Ubuntu is because Ubuntu doesn't run on their hardware, and when it does, it's buggy, obfuscated, and confusing. I am a new ubuntu user and I love the fact that when you first install its clean, simple, easy to understand (particularly important when using a new operating system) and conveys ubuntu's robustness in an obvious way.

The theme on default install isn't TOO bad; but on a fresh install i have to admit i install many things to modify the look of the os.

A newbie would not want to try and figure this or that out until they already feel accustomed to the pc.

When it comes to mac and pc apps; they both have applications which the application "gui is more advanced", that is part of where we lose much users. It is another big thing that gives the os a "old" look.

The goal is to keep it incredibly simple but very pleasing to the eye also; many younger consumers are going to go and get used to what looks/feels like candy. They will also most likely keep using what they are used to!

Linux has apps that are widely available.

Linux has: The office suite; Gimp; an audio player and video player; a web browser... All which have no real "identity."

Nothing really 'stands out' it looks like a old package deal.

It feels like a square model car. It almost feels old and classic to certain users and plain old and dull to others.

Many MANY users will use a pc at home for entertainment: chat, music/videos, e-mail, pictures,...

Chat is VERY VERY VERY much used these days; you get someone a super pleasing (visually and usability) chat program and you've already won a bit more users.
