Rationale
When you open up a terminal in slackware, you are greeted with a message of the day.. which can be pulled from the program fortune.
There is a quick and dirty hack to do this in ubuntu - but it'd be good to have a motd in the terminal, as a light-hearted way for users to the terminal not to get so scared of it. Humour would be a bonuse at this stage :)
Ubuntu already have a MOTD and it sucks. It is stored in /etc/motd
"The programs included with the Ubuntu system are free software;
the exact distribution terms for each program are described in the
individual files in /usr/share/doc/*/copyright.
Ubuntu comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY, to the extent permitted by
applicable law."
DAS KOMPUTERMASCHINE IST NICHT FÜR DER GEFINGERPOKEN UND MITTENGRABEN! ODERWISE IST EASY TO SCHNAPPEN DER SPRINGENWERK, BLOWENFUSEN UND POPPENCORKEN MIT SPITZENSPARKSEN.
IST NICHT FÜR GEWERKEN BEI DUMMKOPFEN. DER RUBBERNECKEN SIGHTSEEREN KEEPEN DAS COTTONPICKEN HÄNDER IN DAS POCKETS MUSS.
I like the MOTD's in Slackware. :)
So I'm for this. I really don't care about that "Ubuntu comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY"-warning at all, looks like pollution even if it's true: I don't need to read that every time really.
I would even like it if the MOTD's are somehow implented within the GUI somehow. A dialog that pops up every time you login wouldn't work but maybe there's a nice spot for them in the login window?
