Idea #13355: Better Font Management

Written by theodorebook the 17 Sep 08 at 21:19. Category: Look and Feel. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
I would like to have better font management. Perhaps this is an application-specific problem, but when I go to the font list, instead of having a thousand fonts listed, it would be good to have five or ten standard fonts, and then other categories: titling, serif, sans serif, script, asian, etc., where I could go to look if I had a need for some specific unusual font. Few people would put a thousand commonly used files in one directory and flip through them every time they needed one - instead, we use nested directories to find the file we want. Why not do the same thing with fonts?

This was marked as a duplicate of #13058. I do not think it is a duplicate. 13058 calls for a program to add / remove / manage fonts on a systemwide basis. This idea calls for an easier interface for selecting fonts within an individual application.
