Idea #13278: Brainstorm website needs Spanish capabilities

This Brainstorm site needs to be able to work with Spanish, to ensure it can get many good ideas proposed in Spanish.

Thank you

Speak English!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_language

It is the worlds most popular and widely spoken language, it is widely used when speaking to people internationally who may not know your local language.

How would You do it? Somebody would have to translate it all to developers. More ideas - more translators - more needed money. No need for that.

If it was only about Spanish... But what about German, French, and, for example, my native language - Polish?

I propose to let English be here and not to introduce foreign languages. Or to introduce more of them, not just Spanish.

English has become the international language, learn it, it's easy enough... at least much easier than my own language, which is French.

todos los españoles deberian aprender inglés, y esfuerzaren-se un poco más en leer y escribir...

Spanish is somewhere close to being the second most popular language - especially in South America.
(Many French and Germans already know how to speak English)
(So do the Americans, Canadians, 'Straylians n Kiwis)

Rhetorical questions of "How?", are exactly the kinds of problems that could be being solved at Brainstorm.

You will see that I first responded with a translation in a comment.

Some options;

1) If there was a box I could put this in, then the box would be handy.
We could possibly be able to "add boxes" for other languages.

2) Separate sites for different languages, but each entry gets translated (google language tools), and posted on the other web sites.

3) Force everybody of different languages to have nothing to do with each other - not quite in keeping with Ubuntu's community philosophy, or LoCos. But it keeps everything simple - by not having to think about it.

Google Translator is not good enough. It somehow deals with translations to English (but also - not too good), but completely fails with other ones. For example, translations from English to Polish produce a text that I am not able to understand. If I see sth like that, I have to translate this word by word to English and only then I can understand it...

We all want something perfect, and we want it now.
If we get something less that that, can we live with it.

Any better suggestions than Google - please don't hold back.

This idea was by a Spanish speaker asking for the web site to be able to work in Spanish.
Good idea or bad idea?
Easy solution or hard solution?

The Spanish speaker had failed to ask for the site to work in Polish - perhaps that could be another idea - or perhaps the idea could be expanded to include as many languages as possible (but not the currently impossible ones).

Brainstorm uses Drupal CMS as it's web design software.
I am not familiar too well with Drupal, but some other CMS systems have extensions/plugins that can use google translations and/or other translation systems.

Some useful resources are at ;
http://drupal.org/project/Modules/category/97

This may not be perfect, but could be a place to start.

We're a lot of people from different countries sharing our ideas. I think that we could translate to English this ideas published in other languages, using the comments.

Once the translation is published as a comment, the author can edit the description. The only thing we need is an option to edit the title, now it's fixed by default.

An alternative could be a new Brainstorm section to publish untranslated ideas, arranged by languages. Once an idea has been translated it can be transferred to the English Brainstorm main page.

Consider this possibility, it can contribute with many more collaborations.
