Idea #13159: Stereoscopic anaglyph plugin for Compiz

Written by Eldmannen the 13 Sep 08 at 22:42. Related project: Compiz. Status: New
Rationale
Priority: Low

Make a plugin for Compiz that draws the windows using a anaglyph effect to make it stereoscopic.

Using goggles this would make the desktop appear 3D, as if the active window hovers in the air.

I am not sure fun is the right word, but I think it would be really cool.

Dude, I want some of some of what's on *that* screen.
Aah! That Terminal Window is coming right at me!!

Yeah, couple of months ago I saw a movie at a theater that used this kind of technology, and we had goggles.

It was a documentary about prehistoric sea life with computer-generated CGI creatures. It was rather cool, it actually felt like they came out of the screen to you.

People would reach out with their hands and touch the visual. When creatures came towards them with their mouth fast, people would back into their chairs and go like "aeeeh!".

A compiz plugin to do this has already been created: http://dev.compiz-fusion.org/~cyberorg/2007/11/01/introducing-the-real-3d-compi z/
