In what scenarios would multiple VPN connections be needed?

For example when you have VPN over WLAN and want to establish a connection through that VPN tunnel to your working place.

to me vpns represent my customers, im tapped in to each ones private lan by vpn, luckily the IP spaces dont overlap (because I built them)

I think it will be usefull for the same reason wrote by fireball. The WLAN from our university is secured over a cisco vpn connection.

If I want to connect to my home server I need a second vpn connection.

This is very important.

I connect to multiple networks all the time. I don't use the GUI because it cant handle the job.

I often need to connect to our work environment . there are to seperated networks - one for the "office" and one for "production".

need to connect to both - "office" for documentation, "production" for the work.

There are many different situations where this is needed. Here are some common examples:

1) Layer VPNs
I often need to vpn into an corporate LAN and the vpn into a development environment over the top of that link.

2) VPN via a proxy network
Because of IP vpn restrictions I need to vpn into and then back out of a network. Another example of layered vpns.

3) Working out of office
When working out of I need to vpn to my office and at the same time to networks with systems I am supporting. Since may also require layering, this might be 3 or 4 vpn links total (see 1 and 2).

I have to do all this manually in Ubuntu since NM has imposed a one-vpn limit. Sadly something that was easy in Win XP and even Windows 95 as I remember!
