Idea #12570: Make it possible to rotate images in OO.o

bug This entry was marked as not being an idea the 23 October 11. If this is a bug report, please use the Ubuntu bug tracker.
Written by cumulus007 the 26 Aug 08 at 14:56. Related project: OpenOffice.org Word Processor. Status: Not an idea
Rationale
It's impossible to rotate images directly in Writer. I have to open them in Draw first and export the Draw image into Writer. That just sucks. I want to import a picture and rotate it instantly. Please add this function to OO.o!

My comment might be out of place but OpenOffice.org is managed by Sun Microsystems, not anyone at Ubuntu, right? Maybe i'm just new around here.

You're absolutely right, but I'm starting to see more and more ideas in here relating to OpenOffice.org. The Ubuntu folks are starting to take more of an interest in helping out upstream, it would be nice if they could enlighten the OpenOffice folks some.

Particularly, the fonts and image rendering look terrible on all platforms (even in OS X where it's difficult to make anything look bad), but Ubuntu even worse than the rest. Sun seems to be stagnating the project, it would be nice if we could make the rendering at least as nice as MS Word on OS X, and have that apply to all platforms, within reason.

But also, as you say, rotating images and other simple things such as intuitively moving images or text frames around with text consistently reflowing around them, that could be accomplished easily and without adding clumsy UI. Apple's Pages seems to be an ideal example to model here. But OOo seems to be too tied to its bloat for this sort of thing.

kepardue, I totally agree with you. If Sun would develop a more elegant Office suite, I would have a better meaning about OO.o. The whole Office suite from Sun is a little bit crappy.

Please direct your suggestion to the OpenOffice/LibreOffice team.
