Idea #12419: OggConvert should support bath transcoding

Written by wladston the 21 Aug 08 at 21:37. Category: Multimedia. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
Guys,

OggConvert is a great app, but it can only convert ONE music at the time .... so If I have a music directory with 100 wma or mp3 musics, I would have to convert then ONE BY ONE ...

please fix this, allow the user to specify a directory as a source (with subdirectory search)

I don't know about OGGconvert but did you tried SoundConverter?

One nice thing about Ubuntu is that it's got a GNU/Linux base. This means that you can very easily use any command line tool that is meant for single-file operation and use it in batch mode using the handy-dandy command line in the UN*X style shell of your choice. Try it sometime; but be warned: it can addictive.

People who dislike the terminal should read this bug.

I agree with Ssdg, SoundConverter can do it and it's already in repositories. I think it's your best choice.

This is already being worked on for the next version of OggConvert. I have been in contact with the author recently.

Either way, it should get done, because adding such code should be quite simple +1

Transcoding sucks.
Transcoding from a lossy source (such as MP3) to a lossy destination (such as Ogg) just decreases the audio quality.

Encode = Good.
Decode = Good.
Transcode = Crap.

People who transcode should be disemboweled.

Then I find an .ogg file on file sharing network, and I think "wow, this file is .ogg it must be encoded by someone who knows about audio quality", but nope, its transcoded by some idiot.
