Rationale
Now that Netbooks are getting very popular, and we all know, there are no CD or DVD drives in them.. Which makes it harder, complicated to install any kind OS on the Netbook..
It would be great if there would be some kind of install image made especially for SDHC/ SD Cards or USB sticks. And to provide it as a download, like the .iso files are too..
I know you cant just burn them like a .iso file to a cd and make it bootable, but it would be possible to make a GUI-tool or something easy to help users set up that image on a SDHC/ SD card on a Linux or Windows system.. maybe AcetoneISO??
I am Sure this is not only interesting for Netbook users, its also very economic, a dream not to buy any blank CD's anymore :-) .. it would match to the way we all use Ubuntu.. it would be just as easy as apt!!
Big up for this one. This could also be very useful for non netbook installs too.

I think there are instructions (or maybe its official now?) to get Ubuntu to boot off of a flash drive. This would be incredibly nice, especially if we are able to modify the Ubuntu on the USB stick or whatever (like throw files into the /home/user/Desktop folder on the USB drive) from an installed-to-hard-disk Ubuntu.
Usb-stick installation will be integrated in ubuntu 8.10, it'll probably work for sd cards as well
I don't know wether it'll be integrated on the .iso of the live cd, or as a seperated download option (probably the first option, but you can always use a cd-mounting software to create a usb-stick)
But the idea is very good!! I've been waiting for it for a couple of years
I have been trying to do exactly this, with no success.
i have a university provided laptop(with vista) and cannot install to hdd, so have tried to install ubuntu to SD card, which i can boot from as a "floppy" disk.
however i install ubuntu as normal, and upon reboot, ubuntu doesnt load. can anyone shed any light on this for me?
i think it might involve the bootloader. the vista bootloader is already installed onto the hdd, i dont know whether to replace it with the grub(will this overwrite any impoartant vista files) and i still dont know why the laptop cant find any bootable files on the SD card.
