Idea #12147: Don't install gnome-games by default

bug This idea was marked as implemented the 18 January 12.
Written by spydon the 12 Aug 08 at 19:25. Related project: brainstorm.ubuntu.com. Status: Implemented
Rationale
There are lots of small games in the gnome-games package and there are simply too many. It looks kind of bloated with that many games installed by default. So I suggest that you just have 2 or 3 games instead of the whole package.

casual games=> great to catch everyone's attention. Some prefer snake, other card games, other sudoku and puzzles,... there is 4 games of each kind ;)

What I'd like to see is an option to select which games you want. Now all games are being installed and you can also remove all of them, but you can't install or remove some of the games.

I don't like card games, but I like to play Gnometris. An option to select the games you'd like to install would be nice. Also an option to a install or remove each game seperately after installation.

It is good that we have more games than XP and Vista. ;)

But I think we should have high-quality games. Chess Titans on Vista is really cool.

You are talking about a few MBs.
Many people like to play with those games, and if you don't, you can remove them easily.

I have to agree actually. Games should be optional, not default.

Now the "gnome-games" package is not installed by default.
Marking as implemented.
