Another missing feature in Ubuntu/Gnome. Surely this is useful!? I think it would be good to put this into the Properties window - just make the "Name: ..." field editable.

I don't know if anyone will be willing to do this...little things like this seem to be deemed unimportant :(, but all these little things add up!

To rename disks or partitions in Gnome with the default file manager Nautilus first the gvfs framework (somehow related to GTK+) must support that.

However adding the features to gvfs is for unexperienced programers like me not an easy task, but I would like too. I think big portions of code can be taken from other projects.

Walton, that's great news! During the last year, I've "converted" four people to Ubuntu, and all of them had this same complaint. It was very embarrassing to say that was a feature Ubuntu didn't have, specially because it is considered such a trivial feature.

This is clearly a good idea. I would call it an obvious idea, except it clearly must be more complicated to implement than is immediately apparent, give that it's still not possible in Jaunty.

I would like to add that renaming gvfs mounts in Nautilus would be really handy too. I have a long list of mounted remote filesystems in my places panel in Nautilus. Since upgrading to Jaunty, I find they are all named "SFTP for simon on ..." and the ellipsis serves to make them indistinguishable. Being able rename them (or even just having them take the name I use for their bookmarks) would be a real boon.

Cheers!
