Idea #1175: Disable touchpad tap

bug This idea is a duplicate of Idea #126: Disable touchpad while typing.
Written by autonomouse the 29 Feb 08 at 09:29. Category: Others. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
Can we have an option to disable left mouse click when you tap on the touchpad? The buttons underneath it work fine - other people may like being able to click by tapping, but for me (on my laptop), I keep accidentally tapping it whilst typing and this is really annoying.

This can be done fairly easily from the control panel in Windows and I'd like to see it in Ubuntu.

Maybe there already is one and I just haven't found it - if so, can we make it easier to do this from the menu please?

Cheers

Should be an option, but not as default. Personally I like tapping the touchpad to indicate a click.

Oh yeah totally. I know a lot of people like using tap to click, but I don't and I'd just like to be able to turn it off and use the buttons instead. Not as default, but just to have the option would be nice.

For some reason on my Samsung Q45 it's really sensitive and I keep catching it with my wrist whilst typing and end up finishing my sentence somewhere different to where I started it!

I spend a lot of time on my computer (as does everyone here I guess) and its the little things that end up making the difference.
