Launchpad has a service called PPA, for software developers to host their projects on an Ubuntu server, which can build their program to work in Ubuntu. A number of services are included (for free).
Idea:
===
Provide the Ubuntu Brainstorm service also, to the Software Projects at launchpad's PPA .
This would help all those projects develop faster.
Possible methods for How;
================
1) Make a Brainstorm section available at each local software project within Launchpad PPA.
and/or
2) accept Brainstorm submissions at this Ubuntu Brainstorm, and they can go into any category. But the "This idea is related to:" could have a section called Brainstorms for "Ubuntu Hosted Software Projects" with a list underneath, of all projects that want to receive Brainstorm submissions.
and/or
3) Somebody might have some suggestions for other ways to get this service to Software developers. Please feel free to add in the comments below.
Each project could choose whether they want the Brainstorm service or not, and maybe also be able to indicate how responsive they can be to ideas.
We can all understand that a promising project with a small team, has lots of potential, but not much to work with. But also a project that has a big following with a backlog of development, is the kind of exciting place that adventurous programmers like to be a part of.
Background Information on Launchpad's "Personal Package Archive (PPA) service"
================================================
"Launchpad Personal Package Archive (PPA) service ... is fast becoming a centrepiece of the free software development process, allowing users to report bugs, contribute code, submit translations and generally collaborate in an efficient and transparent fashion. PPAs enable developers to publish ready-to-install packages of their software directly to users."
"The PPA service is a build system, a publishing system and a community experience all in one.”

If this idea gets implemented, then at the same time (due the the effort of overhauling PPA services), then it might be handy to at the same time add additional features like polling, so software developers can "ask" users and potential users what they think on this or that, rather than trying to guess, or wait till one of the users comes up with the idea.
