Idea #11659: I would like to see more PC Wireless on ubuntu

bug This idea is a duplicate of Idea #295: Better wi-fi support.
Written by trinigirl the 30 Jul 08 at 18:10. Category: Internet & Networking. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
Probably the only thing keeping me from installing Ubuntu is that - it does not host PC. Wireless Cards. or it it does it does not host mine [ Sony Ericsson PC 300].

What I would like to see is that in the next Edition Ubuntu developers include drivers that can work with Sony Ericsson as well as other P.C cards that are not listed on the Ubuntu Networking site.

Ubuntu 8.10 "Intrepid Ibex" comes with kernel 2.6.26 which has improved wireless support. It has preliminary support of the future 802.11s wireless mesh standard.

I don't know what "Sony Ericsson PC 300" is.

It is a Mobile Broadband PC Card. And I did tried on Ubuntu - but it did not work.

I have an Acer laptop and i have realized that i can't get my wifi to work, i think that it needs more hardware support especially for wifi, because people are now moving into wireless, and Ubuntu that supports all if not many wireless driver would be beautiful.

Atheros recently released open source drivers. Hopefully they can get included in later versions to get better Wi-Fi support.
