Idea #11649: option: forcing all sound through one interface/driver t

Written by scientus the 30 Jul 08 at 12:03. Category: Multimedia. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
calling for a merge in sound is a common request but doesnt really make sense since only ALSA is even decent. I wish however if there was an option to force all programs to go through 1 driver or card so firefox flash doesnt do whatever it wants to and I dont have to disable a second sound card in order to get everything out the same speakers

A common sound system would be more beneficial then trying to emulate/redirect other systems to ALSA or other selected 1 system.

Considering continuous development of other systems, features etc... In order to do something like that, the 'redirector' should be in the level of large-all-features-included layer, much like a common-sound-system but more complicated, because of interactions of different systems. If I'm not mistaken :)

I'll go for a common-sound-system.

With Pulse, you will be able to do that.

For me Pulse audio doesn't work correct.
There is also a bug report for.

Well, yes, I don't say that Pulse is complete and/or suitable for everybody, just that you can do this in the near future, so I don't think it should be reported to anywhere, because the work is already begun.
