If you read the progress of the project :
http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/FeatureMatrix
2d works but not 3d.
So how to help this project :
-Ubuntu should ask to make a dump and send automatically the dump to the nouveau developer after installing the proprietary nvidia driver.
see : http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/MmioTraceHowto
-Ubuntu could give money to support this project.
-Ubuntu developper should imply in this project.
-Maybe you have another idea, don't hesitate to write it.
Ubuntu should not give money to the project, but Ubuntu could advertize it.
Maybe when installing the nvidia drivers, give this as option and explain it.
I have a Nvidia graphics card, but now I have heard that ATI has released open specifications for their card, so in the future I will most likely buy ATI instead of Nvidia.
Yeah and Ubuntu shouldn't help install the proprietary driver, force people to use the reverse-engineered nv driver and make sure no user can't install nvidia's drivers.
+0 I like the idea of prompting the user to test the drivers after installing Nvidia drivers, but I don't think support should be exclusive to any single project.
I'd rather use drivers from Nvidia. All I care about is that it works. I don't care if the drivers are open source. I paid for the hardware and the drivers at the same time.
