Related to: Update manager. Status: New
Description
The auto-NDISwrapper is out in ver. 0.1

When the time comes to spreading out 8.10, it will hopefully be much further in development.

Include it and get rid of those damn wi-fi problems!

It would bring some convenience.

But it would still be using proprietary closed-source Windows device drivers.

In the long run, we should strive to get free open source native device drivers.

I say go for it. I don't care if it's a closed source driver as long as it's a closed source driver that works.

I think so, too. It doesn't need to be installed by default, if that clashes with the Ubuntu philosophy, but it would be good to have that option.

Too early for it to be included yet.

Well I suppose it should be included in the repos at least.
We sadly don't have open source drivers for everything by the time.
Maybe a "Having trouble with your wireless netcard?" section, with the option so install it, and a guide to make it work.

+1

It could be added to the "Hardware manager" (propietary and 3rd party driver manager) system config applet that serves the same purpose for graphic cards; maybe labeled "Windows network drivers support"

+1 to Habbit's idea. See also http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/8538/ and duplicates for clever ways we could help new users...
