Description
i don't know why... but lots of things like this one, don't let me think that Nautilus is Modern File Manager ...

I think UBUNTU _should_ push Gnome developers to fix/remove these nasty Bugs..

i think it's not a bug
Gnome developer thinks that it's a feature !! but they are wrong,

it don't mean this bug only. there are lots of bug like this that Gnome developer don't want to fix them because they this they are feature..

But this IS a but, you MUST be able to delete any file (if permissions arecorrect certainly.)
Please report it at launchpad.
Nobody will "push" gnome developers to fix bugs if they don't get bug reports ;-)

I very much doubt that developers would feel its a feature (it was only a feature of Win95).

Similar to how windows only seemed to fix their long file name issues fully in vista, its probably caused by legacy code from back in the days when this made sense (unless it was put in to prevent buffer overflows, but that wouldn't make sense either).

I actually like seeing the long names and I don't like the way XP does it at all where I'm forever clicking on the icons to see complete names.

@flammon
But Most users don't like . maybe they should make it optional in gconf or Nautilus Preferences dialog .

but it should be disabled default.

I don't think that's a bug. I think that's a good feature. When you got pleny of files named

some_project_backup_200807181839
some_project_backup_200807182000
some_project_backup_200807182120
some_project_backup_200807182225
some_project_backup_200807182300
some_project_backup_200807182330

what you gonna do?

I agree they could make it customizeable. But not completely remove it!!!

We have two topics here: 1) the Long Name File display on the Nautilus windows. That's considered a feature (or could be, depending on your point of view), and it wouldn't hurt an option to make Nautilus wrap this long file names and act like other file explorers do..
2) The Trash issue should be considered a bug and therefore reported on Launchpad.

But not fixed yet....
it's Hard? NO
they didn't fix it because they think it's Feature

Looks like it's fixed, but someone who actually did the work and not just sat around saying "it's not hard to fix it, why isn't it already":
