Description
But it has a long way to go. If you want to change people from Windows or Mac O/S X than I think that you need to a redesign from the ground up! Make it easier (I am a PC tech and I know people that can't use XP!)A lot of people have used dos change it to more friendly commands. Have a repository form apps that people download. Windows has copied so much from other O/S so do the same to them, If a file is downloaded (like an .exe , .rar) When someone clicks to open it downloads the program and opens it right then. Or it takes you to a website and gives you links to download the program. Auto linking files to programs, (like .jpg) just auto link the files so you don't have to find the app that opens that file in the hard to understand file system that opens that file. Let the file system make sense . (Put a apps folder, where all the apps install by default) Let the commands on the test based side easier to use and remember. Preinstall codces for video and audio in Firefox and Video player. People like to click and go. Have flash and Java Preinstalled. Mouse themes, let user choose KDE, or Gnome installation. Have a RAM manger (Like RAM XP Pro). I think that some of these changes will help Ubuntu on it's way.

You are not a PC tech.
If you were, you would know that "RAM managers" don't do shit.

I don't know if you ever used Ubuntu, but please, go back to Windows.

Wow where do I begin...

GO BACK TO WINDOWS!

Clearly for you Ubuntu isn't mature enough so come back in a couple of years, when Ubuntu satisfy those who think just because they own Mavis Beacon they are PC Techs.

Besides the fact that this is just a Linux vs. Windows vs. Mac OS X rant, you have MULTIPLE ideas. I -1 but realistically I should give you -11 because you have at least 11 different ideas.

There is a reason why it says IDEA #xxxxxxxxx BECAUSE ITS ONE IDEA PER IDEA THREAD!!!!

If you want to change people from Windows or Mac O/S X than I think that you need to a redesign from the ground up!
--- You do realise that OSX is based on Darwin, which is a fork of FreeBSD right? So our base is pretty much the same as OSX.

A lot of people have used dos change it to more friendly commands.
--- OSX uses Bash, which is the same as linux. We have the same commands as OSX. In fact, most people DON'T know dos. I have a mate who did computer science, who had never used dos. I had to teach him the commands (and his a geek).

Have a repository form apps that people download.
--- Done (Have you actually used linux before? Or was the last distro you tried Slackware years ago)

When someone clicks to open it downloads the program and opens it right then.
--- Done. There are some cases like shell scripts which don't work properly, but for 99% of cases, done..

Put a apps folder, where all the apps install by default
--- I actually agree with this. To make this possible, vote for extending the XDG base directory standard.

Have a RAM manger
--- This wont be implemented. The reason is that RAM managers will actually most likely slow a system down in many situations unless
1) The system has barely any ram
2) The system has a fast cpu

And even then, because the manager consumes even more ram, its already small benefits may be offset.

This idea should be closed. Parts of it which aren't already done, have already been duplicated as other ideas. Please try to post only a single idea in a single idea. People should be able to vote each idea independantly.
