Description
Theorur OS Video Streamer
( Keep an Eye out for this package!! )

If you have ever thought of streaming video (not just a webcam), then this is a seriously good option.

High and low resolution, and high and low frame rate capability.

Theorur is a GUI for Ogg/Theora video and audio streaming over an icecast2 system.
Streaming can be done live.

It uses
- gtk2, under GLPv2
- dvgrab
- ffmpeg2theora >= 0.17
- oggfwd >= 0.2

In the current version, theorur is fully functional for digital video streaming (IEEE1394).

Some remaining problems for V4L streaming should be fixed by using gstreamer in the 0.6 branch.

The current Ubuntu version is for i386 only.
Multimedia (Video) programs run well on AMD64.

1) It would be great to have this program available through synaptic repository sources.

2) It would be great to have it available in AMD64 version, and other more recent processors.

See

Ubuntu Packages from Author

Package of theorur 0.5.3 provided by nighto (source.list entry):
deb http://nighto.net/ gutsy/

Package of theorur 0.5.2 provided by die-go and magnus:
- http://xanta.milharal.org/~diego/theorur_0.5.2-1_i386.deb

Package of ffmpeg2theora 0.18:
- http://xanta.milharal.org/~diego/ffmpeg2theora_0.18-1_i386.deb

Advantages
1) Takes a feed from your ieee1394 DV port, or a DV channel/device on your DV network. You could feed analog video through the A/V input on a DV camera.
2) Uses IceCast servers, so you can send to an Icecast receiver, or to a hired IcesCast server hoster.
3) Taylor it to your upload bandwidth capacity.
4) Stream from your DV Camera, Firewire Sound Mixing desk (there a only a few applications that work with firewire mixers in linux), firewire dvd players.

This should go to http://launchpad.net/ubuntu, please file a bug with the [needs-packaging] tag.
Brainstorm is the wrong place for new package requests.

@droetker

I recently contacted launchpad.
The response include the following statement ;

"If it is difficult to find out how to request that a program be packaged, that's an Ubuntu issue."

That is what launchpad staff have to say.

Thank you for providing the link to launchpad.
I have a logon for launchpad.
Here's the message that I was "greeted" with;

"Lost something?

There’s no page with this address in Launchpad.

If you got here from a link elsewhere on Launchpad, sorry about that. We’ve recorded the problem, and we’ll fix it as soon as we can.

Otherwise, COMPLAIN to the maintainers of the page that linked here."

Now I'd rather not take their recommendation to "complain" (at this stage), as I rather notify Brainstorm so this can get solved.
But as you can see - your help is not so helpful, and maybe there is a need to update the information on the link before many more others get steered to non-existent pages.

I think the address you are meaning is (secure) ;

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu

That page has a link for "Report a Bug", but no obvious facility to "Suggest a Package".

Question;
Please let us know where abouts on this page, a person is supposed to find information about how Launchpad takes package requests for Ubuntu Repos ?

Problem or idea - call it what you like - it needs a solution.

I have put enough suggestions through to Ubuntu Brainstorm, and still see no information on the Brainstorm page, or links to where one actually goes to request packages for repos (or report bugs).
There is likely to be a high correlation between the proactive people that help by having ideas, and those that take the initiative to report bugs.
Currently this human resource appears to be going to waste at Brainstorm.

I am taking some steps to see if this situation can get rectified.
If you think you know what you can do to make it easier and more obvious for Brainstorm web site visitors to request a package in the repo (or get steered to the launchpad site for bug reporting), then please feel encouraged to action it.
I will not be annoyed by the duplication of effort.

I managed to get the package submitted.

A good link to advise people is;

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+filebug-advanced

because the "Tag"s field doesn't show unless you happen to click on "advanced".
Advanced usually is stuff like technical optional extras.
But in the case of submitting a package, it is mandatory.

So a good instruction is either

A) go directly to ;
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+filebug-advanced

or

B) go to https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/
click on "advanced" button.
in the tags field type "needs-packaging"
