Great point! I wish I could add more than one voice to it.

Developers can already do this (if they want).
Why a new category?

When the developers want something, they will make it happen. This is how we got Linux and Ubuntu in the first place. Whatever else we users do we should not discourage them from making more of the great stuff that we are using.

Developers don't ask if their idea is good or not - they just do it. ;)

I meant Ubuntu developers not all open source developers, and this could be a way of get some feedback from users which is more accurate than a simple poll on home page, like most projects do.
It doesn't mean that they need our approbation to do something, it's only about discussing some ideas and get user's insights. Isn't that what a brainstorm is all about?
Could be a new category if needed, but could be any way to remark that it is a developer idea as well -like an icon or a different color for title-.
"Developers can already do this (if they want)."
But they don't, so if you want them to do that vote this idea!
I would like to know what ubuntu developers think about all this...

gsiliceo: So what about the ideas that this site has helped to get implemented? Your comment does not seem to be helpful or productive.
|
|
|
Anrkey: If you have payed attention all the ideas those ideas were already planned or had a background, it was a coincidence when the user posted them and developers commented, "oh yeah we knew about that".
You don't see "oh how wrong were we, we didnt know users wanted this, yes lets implement it"
I don't blame them, nobody pays them, they don't need to answer to anybody, not even the users (see the KDE4 debate devs saying "we don't need users") Its all the same.

gsiliceo: please read my last comment, you misunderstood my point. Nobody is trying to tell developers what to do.
Anyway, let developers respond to this idea, if they don't need users to tell them what to do, neither they need you to tell us why they won't like this idea...

My point is the same, if they don't care what you need neither they will care if you really really like it or tons of people want it.

We are talking about Ubuntu developers here, not open source developers. Ubuntu developers don't do whatever they want -like most of open source developers do- because Ubuntu belongs to a company.
Canonical cares about what their users think because its product popularity and its incomings depends on that.
Otherwise there would be no Brainstorm at all.
May be we should open a new thread at ubuntuforums to discuss this.

i agree a bit with gsiliceo
voting won't get ideas implemented
some really low priority ideas got a massive amount of votes the first day the site was launched
brainstorm is only good to spot rare and cool ideas that the devs did not know off.
the system is lacking, some people just blindly vote on all the ideas they see and not on what they really need.
a few things need to improve on the voting system:
1- No blind votes. Not allowed to vote unless you review the idea completelly (both pros and cons) and follow the discussion with other members.
2- No biased voting. Can't see other people's votes untill you decide and vote for yourself.
in conclusion, the developers should not post their ideas here unless the voting system is refined.
we should build Ubuntu based on the priorities not just on some cool or wacky ideas
