Unfortunately, the world tend to produce displays having more and more pixel resolution each year.
This requires increasing size of control elements... It's not Ubuntu nor Nautilus problem. The only real way I see to solve this, is using display with more pixels... Nobody will make schemes for 800x600 :(

If you don't like all caps, you guys should have voted for automatic fixing of caps. As it is in the negatives, I'd say the people who voted against it have no right to comment about the use of caps in the title.

In terms of nautilus being fat, I feel its actually not that bad.. But there are ways to improve it.
