Idea #10637: File info on overwrite replace

Written by uaneme the 3 Jul 08 at 00:47. Category: Look and Feel. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
Now if you overwrite a file, you only get the question to replace the file or skip. But no file info is showed.

like:
- last saved time and date of both files.
- filesize
- date created
- checksum (_sebastian's idea)

Solution #2: Display Filesize, create date,
Written by uaneme the 31 Jul 09 at 16:49.
Let us know the size and date when the file was made that is about to be overwritten.

- last saved time and date of both files.
- filesize
- date created
- checksum (_sebastian's idea)

Not sure why solution #1 is locked. IT IS NOT A DUPE of 5354!!! I'm not suggesting a rename, i only want to know see the differences in createdate, filesize and checksum. So that i can choose to Cancel or Overwrite once i know the global details of the file. Right now i don't get ANY info at all. only: File exists Canel/Overwrite. and i need to lookup every damn file and compare them one by one...

This issue is not taken care of, and it is still VERY annoying.

This is something that bothers me. It makes me unsure which file is the newest one.

yes, I never know which one is the old file.

what about a check sum (md5 or sha1)?

Duplicate!

* please conduct a search before submitting your ideas *

This has got to be THE most duped idea on Brainstorm. meaning... IMPLEMENT IT ALREADY!!!! You guys think you deserve to be called developers when you can't even get this one straight?

The biggest protest to this idea is that it takes away from the simplicity of moving a file. The process certainly isn't simple if it asks you for judgments yet withholds the information in regards to making that judgment. It's also not simple in regard to the fact that it doesn't allow you the most common answer to duplicate filenames with renaming something, which is my number one personal itch.

_sebastian, ! yes check sum i'll add that to the list. niceone!

Madsrh, sorry.. i'll do a better search next time.

deadowl, sorry.. I had no idea it's already implemented. And also, i'm not a developer, i'm a user.
ehm simplicity.. well in my case it's a complication to open 2 filemanagers, lookup both files, compare, and then move the file. (and still stay focussed on what i was actually doing)

i'll add it to any dupe i find.. And i also have a look into ideas about an improved search here

i just did a search and yes i found a few RELATED ideas but no actual dupes. Maybe i search wrong,

uaneme, I'm just going to assume that you're not a native English speaker because you completely misinterpreted my comment.

1. I've seen at least 4 ideas asking for the same or extremely similar functionality.

2. I was addressing developers when I said developers.

3. It's already been posted as duped because I looked up what my idea was marked as a duplicate of and which idea that idea was marked as a duplicate of and so on until I finally got to the main idea and it was submitted as a dupe there.

4. No, it isn't implemented. I was saying it should be.

4. Simplicity is the biggest protest and it's my opinion that that argument is bull.

True deadowl, i'm not a native English speaker i'm dutch, and yes i completely missed your point(s) there, ...my apologies.

I think it is actually not that bad to have this as a dupe, now we see (and hopefully the devs too) that this is something that really needs some attention. :-)

Probably just like 90% of all their other priorities, hehe.

...Thanks for your extra time to explain, instead of throwing the dishes at me.

thanks for naming me in the main idea! *blushing*

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh this is NOT a dupe of #5354

NOT NOT NOT...

And it is still the biggest annoyance of file overwrites..
