There were similar ideas and were not supported really. Cedega has to be payed, and some don't want that, so It can't be a default.
Sorry but I must to disagree with you, -1

I used to subscribe to cedega right at the beginning (when it was still WineX). Initially they promised (or at the very least gave the incorrect perception), that they would completely open source their code.
Never happened. In fact, a lot of code which is what makes it interesting (like copy protection) is still not available.
Besides, Wine has actually gotten really good. And if everyone donated the $5 to wine instead of Cedega, Wine, crossover office AND cedega would benefit, not just 1. Besides, Transgaming seems to be partnering more and more with EA games, which means I expect them to be led more and more off-track (on OSX).
EA are notorious for:
1) Forcing gamers to set through 5 seconds of BS EA logo every game. Nobody likes that
2) Buying out every company. And after buying them out, Fifa 98 all of a sudden becomes 99,2001, 2002, etc. They don't release original games, or encourage it. Instead they want their companies to just release seqeals.
And finally
(3) Worst Activation ever. Every EA game is guarenteed to have a serial number, and these days, also have activation (which in some cases, CANNOT be reset after 3 activations. You MUST purchase another copy).
Cedega is a commercial company, and I would probably expect them to focus more on OSX eventually anyway. Lets support Wine Instead!

Cedega costs money and adding this to Ubutnu be default will break the one of the Ubuntu promises

MAYBE.... In the partenrs repository with a buyable key.
I don't care if cedega is propietary or not because games are expensive, i only use free software but i would tolerate propietary games... The point is "CEDEGA SUCKS" i wouldn't pay for a malcfunctioning software.

No, I hate programs like Cedega, Wine and CrossOver and I don't want them on my system.
In my opinion you have to keep Linux-software and Windows-software apart from each other. Don't merge them using this kind of tools. I don't want software for crappy Windows on my Linux-systems. The name says it all: "Linux-system". So I only run Linux-software on it. I've got four PCs and a laptop running Ubuntu 8.04 and none of them is running Windows-software. I want to be free of Windows-products, so I don't want any software on my system that can run Windows-software.
