as everybody knows, saving energy is the main topic at the moment. How about creating a "Green Ubuntu" - which means optimizing Ubuntu to really help save energy. Some simple Ideas to achieve this:
- optimize scheduling to allow the cpu to sleep as long as possible
- good processor-frequ-scaling
- a working (!!!) Hibernate Mode (working out of the box - i think this would help saving a log - because I know a lot of people who run their office-pcs 24hs because they dont want to close all applications when they stop working!!)
.
.
.
More ideas welcome. I think, solving these (and many other possibilities to reduce energy consumption) will boost the ubuntu popularity...
I voted yes because I really want this done, but I don't want it to be a derivative. I think we should already be doing this on all forms of Ubuntu anyway.
That might have been what you meant from the beginning, but I thought you wanted a new version of Ubuntu.
Guys I don't think this is about theming, it's about saving energy. Voted +1, Excellent Idea, however it'll be more an improvement of what we already have. There are already Ideas for this.
I propose to
- de-activate the use of bluetooth when not connected to a device
- decrase the power of wifi antenna while no bandwidth is necessary (reading emails after dowloading, for example)
