Description
Some people would be more comfortable with this stuff. It also may help migration of new users from other operating systems.
For those who wants to hide these icons, it would be a good solution to add a special tab into gnome-display-propertis where users could check and uncheck icons they want on the desktop.

dude i posted similar idea and got the same response.
no one wants change in the way ubuntu is presenting live cd and desktop you can change that after your installation..
but those who don't know that there a thing called gconf-editor how will they change this look ... is googling the only solution ...
i think at installation CD this thing can be asked from user that how do you want your desktop to be organized. this will be much more easier .. for both type of users ..
just like any softawre asks "do you want to put icon on desktop"
ask while installation:
"Do you want computer icon [ ]"(check box)
"Do you want trash icon [ ]"(check box)
"Do you want network icon [ ]"(check box)
or
"Do you want all mounted drives visile on desktop [ ]"(check box)

+1 I love this idea. But if people not need this by default, then, selection of such checkbox(es) at installation process is not time-consuming, but useful. I also suggest add in this dialog theme selection, font size etc. Only one extra dialog at install time, but it will be strongly useful and time-saving IMHO.
