Description
A recent article on ZDnet caught my attention. And i think this points out very good why a popular program like VMware could do with a proper repo.

Also read that article's other little frustrations, that might inspire some of us for more brilliant ideas.

This frustration kicked up quiet some dust there on ZDnet. And to me its VERY clear that this needs to be improved.

My original post to Ask VMware for a repo is thisone:

You should submit a bug for "Needs packaging" in case VMware doesn't have a .deb already in the repos (didn't bother to look). I like VMware, but I like more VirtualBox. Sorry, -1

nevermind85, since when is "needs packaging" a bug???

and it is not about liking or disliking VMware either it's simply about asking if the VMware team will take care of a stable decent repo for their software so that users who want to use VMware are able to use it without pointing their finger at Ubuntu for not having it.

I also Like VirtualBox, tho i want to have a choice... simple like that.

Ubuntu already responded to this is 8.04 with virt-manager. It's in its infancy, but has freer licenses.

@uaneme : I mean something like this:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/175125

More of the like here:
https://launchpad.net/+search?field.text=needs-packaging&field.actions.search.x =8&field.actions.search.y=11

And I do agree with freedom of choice; in fact, I've voted up for 9592 and defended your idea. The reason I didn't vote this one up is because is a dupe from the other one with nothing but a new argument (poor one IMHO); plus there are other ways to request packaging for it.

snadrus, i'll have a look into virt-manager to see what you meant.. not fully inderstaning your msg yet.

Nevermind85, ok i didn't know that that was linked to bugreports, and still find it akward. Tho, if that's how it works then lets do that.

@uaneme: yes, I find it weird as well... but if that's how it works... lets do it :)

hspaans, Yes i tried virtualbox, and others, but thats not the issue here..

It is about having the choiche and having a better way to get VMware installed and keeping it up to date.

and there are a few tiny things in VirtualBox that i hope that work better in VMware workstation.
