Description
I have an EVDO type cellular modem that I can use to get on the internet via Verizon wireless service. As it turns out, my modem is a USB serial device that requires a ppp connection to be set up in order for it to work. The good news, however, is that no proprietary driver was necessary...thus there is nothing stopping Ubuntu from immediately recognizing this device and setting it up for me.
Figuring all this out by hand, took me 3 days. My mom would have never stood a chance! While doing my research I found many other with PC card cellular modems also struggling.
With all due respect to idea #4 (easy set up of any networking connection), I believe that issue needs particular attention as these devices are particularly troublesome and with prices dropping they are becoming ubiquitous.
