Description
I have seen distributions like ubuntu muslim edition, christian edition.they all focus on religious software for specific language, country, religion.my point is to make better availability of software of religious importance in ubuntu repository and support its development.the world has majority of muslims and Us,uk and europe has majority of english.so
*-muslims needs holy book quran(application version called zekr),some software managing prayer times and related software and ramzan schedule manager prayers.
and schedule/calendar of muslims.
*-english people need bible and related things.
*-india needs hindu calendar, holy book application version
although its purely optional software but it can avoid distro forks like ume,uce

I disagree with the religious part (But I don't want to feed the troll) but support for non-gregorian calendars should be improved and proposed in every languages (I'd like to see the Unix time too by the way).

Brainstorm isn't for religion flamewars. Take this elsewhere.

OS:s are and should be atheists.

People, FOS software is for choice not predesigned attitudes. So religious software (as anti religious or atheistic [which is btw a form of religion]) should also be included.

100 % absolutely! I may not use them but Ubuntu is for everybody from every walk of life.

aethralis:

Atheism is in no way a religion.

Otherwise, is not believing in the Flying Spaghetti Monster a religion as well? Or what about not believing in aliens? Ghosts?

actually the packages that make up each edition are available in the repo's already.

side note:

Lets not let this become a flamewar. Brainstorm is a nice peaceful community...lets keep it that way.

Including software to support different religions should be accepted as much as different languages. +1

Ok, please keep the comments around the idea itself.
I've deleted two offending comments.

Both ubuntume and ichthux maintain metapackages within Ubuntu, and strive for inclusion of all applications within Ubuntu itself. For the most part, the developers of these derivatives participate in Ubuntu development as any other Ubuntu developer. If there are additional applications that are desired (e.g. a hindu calendar applet), the process for inclusion is documented at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuDevelopment/NewPackages.

Hello,

Regarding support for non-gregorian calendars, can't that be done somehow in glibc ? I see that they have that thing called era, but it is only for calendars that are based on (or close to) gregorian calendars (such as buddhist era & japanese Emperor era). I was wondering if is it possible to hack that somehow to support other calendars (such as Islamic Hijri calendar, which is formally used in some countries, such as in the Arabia). I did suggest an implementation method on Arabeyes (http://www.opensubscriber.com/message/developer@arabeyes.org/8608483.html) but I still never worked on it yet.

Btw, there are packages already present in Debian & Ubuntu to support Hijri calendar & islamic praytimes such as: libitl0, itools & minbar.
