I'm not sure the right clic thing is the best way to do, but Ubuntu and Gnome definitely need a proper font manager. The accumulation of different kinds of font (postscript, bitmap...) in different systems (OpenOffice will have different fonts than Latex...) looks really messy.

Installing fonts is too hard.
I don't even know where the fonts are located.

The font installation was one of reasons I went from GNOME to KDE.
+1

Come on..
Putting your fonts in the ~/.fonts folder is not so hard..

Even if it could be great..
Why not a install button in the window opened with a double click ?

Auzy wrote on the 26 Jun 08 at 10:37
what.. putting fonts into a hidden folder is easy?

Eldmannen wrote on the 26 Jun 08 at 13:02
hells_dark,
Sorry I was not even aware that directory existed.

Having an install button on the window opened with double-click would be alright too.

What's the problem with a nautilus script which copies the file into the ~/.fonts folder?
I am using KDE too, but THAT can't be a problem, nautilus has script plugin support AFAIK.

Gnome Font Viewer should have a big button "Install this font" that copy the font in the good folder.

+1,Obvious

This would make an intuitive interface for installing TrueType fonts: very "discoverable." I don't see any downside here.

I agree with "install" button in Gnome Font Viewer

Would be nice to have the option of installing it system-wide (if administrator) or just to ~/.fonts (if not)

I think a nautilus-plugin would be enough
