Idea #10206: Framework for tagging everything

Written by spocky the 23 Jun 08 at 14:27. Category: Accessibility. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
I would love to see a framework provided by Ubuntu and implemented by its software where I can tag different things in different programs (bookmarks, music, contacts, pictures, emails...)

I think a lot of uses can be found for such centralised tagging ...

it seem to look like nepomuk ( http://nepomuk.semanticdesktop.org ) no?

a bit in that direction right...

thanks for the link. I have realised that nepomuk is a co-funded thing from the European Commission.
Did anyone check if parts of Ubuntu may be possible to be subject for funding by the EC? So we could hire more dedicated programmers for focused work on it?!?!

I tried tagging nepomuk-server and soprano with dolphin for KDE4. It's fine, you can tag any file. But to find the tagged file, you will have to use strigi-search (an index-search) and that is not what i want. I do not want to index so many files in s o m e directories. I want to find the tagged files without indexed them and in any directory.
It's the same with tracker and tracker-tags. I can index the file, but I can't find the file by tags, when it is not indexed by tracker.
To find tagged files without indexing files, that's what I want and I can't see any program in near future doing this. That's a pitty.

Sorry, English is not my native language.
