Idea #10169: Allow delayed apport crash log uploads

Written by drinkypoo the 22 Jun 08 at 12:51. Category: System. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
I am on a modem and will probably never upload a 4MB+ crash log. Sorry! If you let me store the crash logs (make them expire after a week or something so those which might now be irrelevant are just discarded) then I'll upload them on one of my visits to high speed.

There should also (instead?) be a light version of apport which will send a smaller crash log. I know you want all that information, but you can't have it, because I won't send it. Wouldn't it be better to get something than nothing?

Solution #1: Auto-generated solution of idea #10169
Written by drinkypoo the 22 Jun 08 at 12:51.
Ubuntu Brainstorm was updated in January 2009. Since the idea #10169 was submitted before this update, its rationale and solution are not separated. Please vote accordingly, and if you have the necessary rights, please separate the rationale from the solution. Thanks!

Solution #2: Development of a bug reporting offline client
Written by komputes the 6 Oct 09 at 01:06.
Apport needs to have a way of saving crash reports/ubuntu-bug/apport-collect to a file/folder when offline.

I suggest using bug program which can queue bug reports and allow you to write a subject and a description of the bug as well as attach more files while offline (or online). This will allow for quick bug submission from the desktop.

Not only would these be useful for people on dial-up, but also for people who have an Internet connection that is down or for people that simply want to send logs at a later time (e.g. they can't be bothered at the moment because they're busy).

Also, if you accidentally exit from apport (by hitting cancel on the gksu) then the crash log is no good anymore.

+1 for sure.

It would also be extremely useful if the program that crashed is NetworkManager itself... How does anyone use Apport for NetworkManager crashes now?
