Description
Brainstorm Search is really, really, really slow. I find it completely unusable. It is no surprise that folks aren't finding dupes when search is this broken.
My idea is that a Google site search box should be added to Brainstorm until the Search engine can be fixed. (NOTE:I am not suggesting that Brainstorm search should be dropped. I am suggesting a workaround until Search can be fixed.)
Till then, BSers: try
site:brainstorm.ubuntu.com (then search terms)
in your Google search to find things exclusively on Brainstorm.

hmmm... IMHO, it should be better to improve the internal search engine. Meta-information (category, title, comments...) are probably useful information that should be accounted for, and Google cannot do that. So if your idea is "The search engine is too slow, it should be improved. Meanwhile, you might propose a serach on Google instead of nothing", then -> +1. If it is "Use google instead of any internal search engine", then -> -1.

Arnaudus... note the words "until the search engine can be fixed. Till then..."
So it's too late, we're already in agreement. But the Google search would be an easy fix for the moment.
I don't think what I said is ambiguous at all...

(yes I know, I'm probably stupid. I realized that a few seconds after posting my comment).

Okay, we have found a way to propel this up.
We are waiting to migrate to a new database version, and once it's done, we'll use one of its features that should fasten that a lot.
Unfortunately, it could take a good deal of time (read weeks to months).

Have you guys thought about wiping some ideas which are done and are a part of ubuntu 8.04 already nand? Those should be irrelevant now anyway

For this, we need the "Report as implemented/work in progress" feature... We can't check every single one :)

Auzy, I don't think deleting ideas is a good solution. Even in ideas that I have suggested moving old ideas to a secondary pool, I still think they should be available for browsing in some way.
No, this is just a database design and indexing issue. Possibly work needs to be spread across additional servers too, but that's hard to tell from the outside.
But to add a workaround Google search would just require a line of HTML on the main page. So at least some kind of search would be available in the interim.
