Rationale
Make hardy the last Ubuntu release ever and from then on work on merging remaining Ubuntu developers, changes, ideas, bugs, users etc back into Debian. Don't work on Ubuntu, just work Debian instead. There was no need to fork in the first place, please fix this. Canonical can make money Debian fine, they don't need a forked distro and forked community to make money.
People is gonna mod this down crazy, because it is such a very controversial topic.
I think Ubuntu is a bit different though.
Debian have the DFSG (Debian Free Software Guidelines) which is a good thing, but which is much more strict than Ubuntu.
And Ubuntu has a stronger focus on ease of use and just want to reach as many users as possible.
Hopefully soon Ubuntu can eventually become what Gobuntu strives to be.
Best of luck to Debian, I wish them success and a great future.
Could you at least make the idea more complete?
Like writing why did ubuntu forked in the first place and then why it was a bad idea. And how will the devs justify this?
And the willingness of debian to accept ubuntus views.
Dont just rant thoughtless
well Debian is nice but why should be merged with Ubuntu?
This idea could be read as merge all of Linux back with Unix if I exaggerate a lot.
But still there are distros that are based on Ubuntu and nobody proposed them to be merged back to Ubuntu.
Sorry but this is just silly.
Also as I understand Debian comes without any DE and I think even without X? Is that correct??
Ubuntu is just user friendly Debian. So -1 from me, sorry.
Ubuntu and Debian are two totally different projects with totally different aims.
Debian is a more thurerly tested distro which has strict guidelines on software unlike Ubuntu, Debian is also more suited to servers and in situations where stability is the main priority whereas Ubuntu aims to have the latest upstream version of software wherever possible.
For the ordinary desktop user Debian doesn't have great usability which is essential in Ubuntu's for the people that Ubuntu tries to attract.
Also Debian would not want Ubuntu to be merged back.
Sorry but in my opinion this is a very silly idea.
