Support of remote audio of AVM Fritz!Repeater
Written by 19feet the 6 Jul 10 at 19:09. Global category: Hardware support. New
The AVM Fritz!Repeater is a (relative cheap) piece of hardware, that increases the range of an W-Lan Router. It also has an output for audio (digital and analog). There is a Windows driver to send audio streams. But people who buy this kind of hardware don't use MS Windows. And there is no Linux Driver. It would be great using some of these repeaters for different HiFi-Systems etc.

Solution #1: driver for each Fritz!repeater a an additional audio card

With such a driver several repeaters can be used to stream music etc.

It is currently very dificult for an average user to configure audio over HDMI
Written by tamim-h the 17 Jan 09 at 22:11. Global category: Hardware support. New
I am currently stuck using Windows on my home entertainment system since it seems that there is no support for audio over HDMI in Linux.
Video works out of the box, but unfortunately audio does not.

Solution #1: Automatic driver fetching, or development of an open source driver.
Written by tamim-h the 17 Jan 09 at 22:11.
Theoretically, all that would be required is to be able to fetch the proper drivers and enable audio over HDMI. Of course this is assuming that the hardware manufacturers (such as ATI, Nvidia...) have provided it.

If the driver does not exist then pushing the development of an open source driver would be warranted, if the hardware is popular.

It seems with many laptops that the particular model of Intel HDA Sound needs to be manually configured in Alsa. This has to be done in the alsa-base configuration file.

Trying out different models to see which works best is time-consuming. Also, many people new to Ubuntu do not know that the option exists and are left wondering why their microphone, etc. does not work.

Solution #1: A GUI for selecting the Intel HDA Model in Alsa
Written by A.Wingrove the 16 Feb 09 at 22:44.
A GUI could list all the models. This would make it simple to see what was available, and to try different ones to see which one works best.

Having a GUI option would also help to raise the user's awareness that this option exists, hopefully reducing a cause of frustration.
