Fix well-known bugs for a new release

Before every new release of Ubuntu, some articles pop up stating that a well-known bug of some sort, that has been around for a year or longer, is still in the development version.
I understand that it is nigh impossible to fix every submitted bug fast, but this is bad publicity and it's really takes away the excitement of a new release when a user upgrades to find the same problem he had before.
My suggestion would be to, on the one hand, try and improve the speed with which bugs are fixed, like the 5-a-day initiative, and on the other hand, focus on fixing well-known and longstanding bugs before every release.
Since only one category can be chosen I put it under Hardware support, but it also concerns Marketing, Security and System

Not an idea

As said in other posts to support driver installation from internet,a jockey framework is being developed.I like the concept very much and i think it will be the first of its kind in linux, but there should be three more improvements to it will be added advantage
1)Make jockey to handle other type of hardware also like network,audio/video device drivers, more and more with each release.
2)Make it possible to install drivers from local media/drive not just internet if i have the drivers CD media with INF file.
3)Ability to request for driver for new device drivers(through form?).maintain central device/hw database that will be compatible with other linux distributions also if possible.

Nvidia drivers are not free. So for example, we can't install nvidia driver during the installation of ubuntu.
But there is a project to free nvidia drivers. It names Nouveau project :
http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/
If you read the progress of the project :
http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/FeatureMatrix
2d works but not 3d.
So how to help this project :
-Ubuntu should ask to make a dump and send automatically the dump to the nouveau developer after installing the proprietary nvidia driver.
see : http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/MmioTraceHowto
-Ubuntu could give money to support this project.
-Ubuntu developper should imply in this project.
-Maybe you have another idea, don't hesitate to write it.

Enhance Drivers manager

Implemented

The point here is that Drivers manager should not only download restricted drivers, but it should solve all hardware-related issues where possible. I mean, it should recognize your hardware and download all the drivers available in the repos for you - when the drivers needed aren't on the install CD.
Developer comments
Hi,
The driver manager (called "jockey") has been worked on (and is still being worked on), to handle more drivers, e.g. printer drivers. Much of this should be seen in Intrepid.

Recognize multiple batteries on laptops

I have two batteries for my laptop. The original one with very low capacity and a new one with good capacity.
When I swap the batteries, Ubuntu doesn't notice the difference and predicts the wrong "time remaining", because it thinks the old battery is still in there.
There sould be seperate predictions for different batteries.
(by capacity, serial number or producer)

When using Amarok, Rhythm Box, or any other Ubuntu based music program, the volume comes out at about a third of what it did when operating under the vole. Turning up the volume controls all the way on-screen as well as on the physical speakers produces less than adequate volume.
Please turn up the volume from the sound cards.
