Include GNOME Do in Ubuntu by default
Written by BlackLukes the 19 Mar 08 at 15:51. New
I used Kubuntu for a few months and I liked much an application named "Katapult", a quick application launcher by pressing Alt+space and typing the name of the application. I found GNOME Do, a similar application that works very well.
Katapult is included by default in Kubuntu, why don't we do it with GNOME Do?

Small Icons in Gnome
Written by xVx the 9 Aug 08 at 10:27. New
I would love it when you could use small icons in all gnome apps. There is no need to waste a lot of valuable screenspace for icons. Everbody should be able to hit a smaller jump back button in Epiphany (example). Another customize toolbar feature: "Use small icons"...

Desktop wallpaper with repeating video
Written by cenora the 19 Sep 08 at 01:05. New
It would be nice if you could select a repeating video and set it as your desktop backgound.

The movie can be just about anything, although "leaves in the wind" and non distracting ones are the best.

I can't decide what album to listen to
Written by nelson.blaha the 9 Jun 09 at 20:05. New
Gnome-do is fantastic! In just a few key presses I can start an album playing in rhythmbox. However, after deciding whose music I want to hear, I have to then decide what album I want to hear.

Solution #1: provide a "play random album" function
Written by nelson.blaha the 9 Jun 09 at 20:05.
along with "play" and "add to play queue" actions when a rhythmbox artist is selected, why not "play random album"? That would be fun.

Nautilus Sidebar should provide an extra list with applications.
Written by avguleas the 30 Jun 08 at 13:53. New

Take a close look guys. This could save us time for the bulk tasks we do!!!

Currently one can add/remove to Nautilus Sidebar extra folders as 'places' that users select as current folders or drop files.

Why not provide after the 'places' and extra list with applications so the user can do bulk tasks with just drag and drops files or folders to them.
For example if one wills not to do the default operation of a file of folder(cut/copy/paste) but to do something else, he has to open the appropriate application, do the dragging and dropping there etc.

For instance if someone has selected lets say 10 mp3's and doesn't want to play them in the default mp3 player but wants to burn them to brasero. He has just to drag and drop the selected files to the brasero that is placed in the Sidebar. Imagine the same for pdf's, txt's etc.

Another usability??? What if one wants to not open a file with the default app??? He has to right click on it, select the appropriate app(if it is on the open's with list) , etc.
If the applications list exists in the Sidebar and the right app. is placed there, a drag and drop onto this app. is enough...and effortless.

Sidebar could have by default under the 'places' the most frequent used and/or opened applications and users could add/remove applications like they do with folders to 'places' right now!!!

Add Mozilla Ubiquity features to GNOME Do
Written by MrTim the 28 Sep 08 at 02:14. New
GNOME Do already does a lot to help productivity on the GNOME desktop. However this could be expanded further by adding the natural language support, as well as clipboard support of Mozilla lab's Ubiquity extension for firefox.
http://labs.mozilla.com/2008/08/introducing-ubiquity/
Having this sort of control on the operating system level would give a further edge on compeditors.

readable long names in gnome-do
Written by ilya@eeepc the 12 Dec 08 at 18:52. New
currently it is impossible to read names which longer when one line in gnome-do, although they appears pretty often. So i suggest to allow them to occupy 2 or 3 lines. It'll look nice if those lines will b arranged with small indent between them and separated by the larger indent and maybe a thin one-pixel line of non-contrast color, faded in the end.
Also, it would be handy if you will be able resize gnome-do.

A better information access for new users.
Written by bungleofsketches the 6 Jul 09 at 20:21. New
As a 'noob' myself the most frustrating thing about Ubuntu is finding things is still completely predicated on knowing its 'address' or being very organised.

linux needs to leap ahead in terms of intergrating web into the desktop.

Solution #1: A one stop shop or information or portals
Written by bungleofsketches the 6 Jul 09 at 20:21.
I propose a one stop 'instant search' bar on the top toolbar. the way i see it working is. that it would have three main functions.

1) Newbie centre. the user would literally type questions and the answers would be provided. ie. How do i use my iPod/mp3 player? the window thrown up would link to data libraries on the computer, stores and guides online, the software required and list step by step help to using this software.this would make Ubuntu much more user friendly.

2) quickening access. this basically means integrating the gnome do function into it in a more usable and detailed fashion. active previews could come later.

3) Bringing the internet search function into the desktop. This would mean it could function as a link getter via Google/bing/yahoo etc. or even a true information portal using the new Wolfram Alpha. make it a choice like codecs.

i would envisage all this information popping up as one great faded through window which would pop over whatever program without really pushing it to the background completely. all the above information would be available at once if you want but through drop down panels would be quickly customisable.

we should be able to change gnome do "docky theme" position on screen
Written by slsolaris the 15 Jan 09 at 18:10. New
it stays at the bottom of the screen, it does not let me see the gnome-panel bar at the bottom, as you can see in this screen-shot:

set gnome-do docky as default in Ubuntu
Written by bassstefan the 24 Jan 09 at 15:32. New
Since a long time I'm using gnome-do!
Such a good and necessary program now gets a new skin named "docky". In my opinion, this is the best working dock including the functionality of "do".
I've tested AWN and Cairo Dock but Docky is the easiest and the most instinctive.
I'd like to see, if it becomes standard in Ubuntu.

Solution #1: use gnome-do docky as default
Written by bassstefan the 24 Jan 09 at 15:32.
as ubuntu uses gnome as the favorite desktop then "do" should be installed using the docky theme.

Solution #2: Install and promote use of gnome-do by default
Written by mniess the 5 Feb 09 at 05:12.
gnome-do should be installed by default (but without docky) as it gives users what neither tracker nor the desktop bar could offer. There should be an easy option to exchange the bottom bar with docky.
