Gedit is a very small footprint text editor with reasonable syntax highlighting, good plugin support etc

It doesn't however seem to have any sort of version control plugins, which is almost always used on any programming project. I don't see the need to have to use a bloated java based ide such as eclipse or netbeans to do php/html/javascript programming.

Adding csv,svn and git support to gedit would cover the common version control systems and make it more attractive to people who just want a simple lightweight code program for things like web development.
