Faster screenshot editing in Ubuntu
Written by hericky the 16 Oct 09 at 21:04. New
When switching from Microsoft Windows, users are sure pleased to see Ubuntu comes with the GNOME screenshot tool that pops up for imediate saving of the image when you press PrintScreen. However, they'll lose time if they want to edit their screenshot right away: first one have to choose the "Copy to clipboard" option, then open GIMP or other image-creating tool, then paste the image and start modifying it.

Solution #1: Add an "Open this screenshot for edition" option to screenshot tool
Written by hericky the 16 Oct 09 at 21:04.
To make editing the screenshot one just took faster, gnome-screenshot in Ubuntu could come with a markable option like "Open this screenshot for edition now": the user presses PrintScreen, the window pops up, they mark the option and the newly saved print is opened with GIMP right away.

Maybe that would require a new "Photo Editing" category to be added on Preferred Applications under Preferences - if I want gThumb, not GIMP, to be my default editing tool for example.

Solution #3: #1 plus implement some basic features of snatchit
Written by graylion the 25 Oct 09 at 02:31.
mostly we don't want to shoot the whole screen but just some part of it. Why edit this later, rather than selecting the part of the screen we want to snap directly?

for snatchit see:
