F-Spot Tag Ambiguity
Written by ChrisB the 27 May 10 at 15:38. New
When you tag a Photo in F-Spot for a person, place or event, all it can have is a name. This is not very useful.

Solution #1: Add Tag Metadata
Written by ChrisB the 27 May 10 at 15:38.
Tags should have metadata fields, these should be image specific or tag specific. All these fields should be optional and the system made expandable so that flexible tags can be created.

The People tag should include fields for:
- Linked Contact (Tag Specific)
   - Link the tag to a person in your address book
- Photo Bounds (Photo Specific)
   - The bounds of the persons face, similar to facebook

The Place tag should include fields for:
- Location (Tag Specific)
   - The latitude and longitude of the location
- Photo Bounds (Photo Specific)
   - The bounds of the place, for instance a mountain in a photo

The Event tag should include fields for:
- Linked Calender Event (Tag Specific)
   - Link the photo to and event in your calender

Import Windows (Vista, Seven) gallery (tags, and marks) in F-Spot
Written by JazZ the 27 Mar 10 at 17:32. New
When I tried to convince somebody to try Ubuntu, he tells me "OK, but I need to import my pictures, with the preferences I have entered on Windows Gallery (tags, and marks). I have a lot of pictures on my computer, and I have spend lot of time to organize them."

I checked this option on F-Spot and I didn't find anything to do this. This could be a good idea to help Windows' users (and why not MAC OS' users which I don't really know) to migrate under Ubuntu (Linux in general).

I know that this should not be a priority for the community, but if it interest a developer, I am pretty sure that this option will be very useful.

Solution #2: Write an import plugin for Gwenview
Written by jeanpaul145 the 19 Apr 10 at 01:01.
Similar to Solution #1, but for KDE4's Gwenview. It has a plugin system in place, so it would make sense to utilize that for this purpose.

Allow to merge files to one image
Written by TheK the 8 Mar 10 at 03:16. New
Sometimes you need to produce versions external or just imported them from another PC. Then this files are their own pictures in F-Spot; there is currently no way to merge them.

Solution #1: entry "merge" in the context menu
Written by TheK the 8 Mar 10 at 03:16.
Add an entry "merge" to the context menu if multiple images are selected. Afterwards ask, if the user is sure and how to name the added version(s) each after another. If files are named according to f-spot scheme (with the bracked), then use this name as the proposed name for that image version.

Quickly add a single photo to F-Spot catalog and Photos Folde   forum
Written by DrH the 13 Dec 09 at 14:10. New
F-Spot wants to manage lots of photos, but it is frustrating to use when the user wants to import a single or a few number of photos. Below are a list of reasons F-Spot is not good importing a single or few photos.

1. Netbook users cannot drag and drop between windows.
2. Cannot import single/few photo(s) directly from SD media disk (all photos are imported)
3. Only way to import single/few photo(s) is via PTP mode.
4. When PTP mode is broken, there is no way to import a single/few photo(s).
5. Waiting to load 700+ photos just to import a few is inefficient use of resources and time.

When a user encounters the above, frustration is guaranteed.

Solution #1: Add option to F-Spot Viewer
Written by DrH the 13 Dec 09 at 14:10.
One possible solution is to offer an alternative method that enables the user to seamlessly copy the photo to the "Photos" folder and updates the F-Spot catalog.

From Nautilus, it is intuitive for the user to (a) remove SD media card from camera, (b) insert SD card into computer media slot, (c) Nautilus automatically launches and user views a photo using F-Spot viewer.

Unfortunately, F-Spot does not offer an option to copy the photo to the local "Photo" folder and update the F-Spot catalog.

I propose that this functionality be added to F-Spot when F-Spot is used to view one or more photos.

For instance, include an option in the Menu system.

File --> Add to Catalog

or

File --> Export --> F-Spot Catalog

Solution #2: Use "Importo Photos" option
Written by leandromartinez98 the 13 Dec 09 at 22:28.

I would change the "Import folder" to "import photos", and within this menu there could be an option to "Import all photos from this folder".

Better integration between F-spot and other applications
Written by Jean_Nanc the 6 Sep 09 at 15:29. New
Ubuntu is maturing a lot. But the interactions between application could be improved. This concerns small improvements that can make the system more consistent and user-friendly.

Choosing a picture. Lots of applications let us choose pictures to tune an account etc.. Though, most of the time we have to proceed with a manual research of the desired picture through the computer folders. It could be interesting to let the choice to the user to pick up a picture manually or to look through their f-spot pictures collection.

Examples:
F-spot and Evolution: when one wants to add or change the picture of a contact.
In Pidgin/Epiphany: when I want to choose my profile avatar.
System: in the “About me” box, when choosing a picture for my user account.
There are probably other interactions possible with other applications.

Solution #1: Integrate pictures search with the user's F-spot collection or in ubuntu One
Written by Jean_Nanc the 6 Sep 09 at 15:29.
When a user wants to choose a picture by clicking on the appropriate button, a box would popup for instance and offer the following solutions:
- Case 1: “Choose a picture from my F-spot collection”
- Case 2: “Choose a picture manually”
- Case 3: and why not “Choose a picture from my Ubuntu One account” (depending on how this service will evolve).

In case 1, a new window would appear offering a search in the F-spot tags/timeline/photos name. The user would search the picture he/she desires, click on it and press a "OK" button (or simply double click on the picture).

In case 2, a Nautilus window would appear as it is currently the case.

In case 3, well I don't have enough experience with Ubuntu One so far, so it is still a very vague idea. I guess one could choose the desired picture in a "Pictures/photos" folder which would be in the cloud. Anyway, if it is in the cloud, it is obviously on the computer in Username/Ubuntu One folder.

Solution #2: Use tracker to search for pictures

Tracker could handle better the searching part, and it already scans most of your directories, Ubuntu ONE included.

F-spot rescan folder
Written by DeAtH89 the 2 Sep 09 at 16:10. New
F-spot does not rescan image folder and always import the photos to the image folder in home. You can define a photo folder but f-spot does not rescan this folder for changes like amarok with the music folder.

F-spot must rescan the photo folder for changes, and add the new photos in the folder.

F-Spot is a great program but it lacks the option of play a background song
Written by sroland the 25 Aug 09 at 19:35. New
When watching a slide show, it would be great to add the "play background song" option... the fading transition effect is well done and it only lacks this song option.... other thing is that I didn't find how to change time between photos... i found the default too large.

Solution #1: add the song option to F-Spot
Written by sroland the 25 Aug 09 at 19:35.
developers should add this option to get F-Spot the best Photo manager ever... I thing F-Spot is one of the great apps in Ubuntu and should become a really "slideshow center" for us to show photos to people...

Solution #2: Add plugins to rhythmbox and F-spot
Written by Ssdg the 27 Aug 09 at 14:07.
By addind two plugins, one in f-Spot to notify of the slideshow's start and one in Rhythmbox to start playing when notified, the problem will be solved and we can use both in compination with other programs.
Maybe we can add a few "configuration options" (exchanged via the dialog protocol) like in f-spot, we'll see the availlable playlists and choose one of them to use with the slideshow.

This could use D-Bus or any other inter application dialog protocol.

PS: for example, but this solution isn't about implementing theses examples:
gnome games could play certain playlists when you win or loose
Power manager could provide a way for f-spot to ask for a certain screen brightness

Solution #3: replace F-spot with GNOME Photo Collector and add SMILE
Written by xernos the 15 Sep 09 at 16:05.
I don't use F-spot so you can remove from standard installation - I suggest replace F-spot with GNOME Photo Collector (http://sourceforge.net/projects/gpc/) and for creating simple sideshow with music i more prefer SMILE (http://smile.tuxfamily.org/) an Avidemux or mmencoder.

Uploading pictures is hard if they are imported with F-spot.
Written by Vanostaajen the 11 Apr 09 at 07:36. New
When pics are imported with f-spot they are arranged by date. And I take lots of pictures, nearly every day. And when I need to upload a picture, then I always have to search a lot before I find it. Also it's difficult to upload multiple photos(if they're taken on different days) and you can only see the picture when its clicked on. So uploading pictures really sucks at the moment.

And I know that it's possible to export from f-spot to many sites BUT:
1)It's not all sites
2)It crashes repeatedly

Solution #1: Tiny F-spot uploader
Written by Vanostaajen the 11 Apr 09 at 07:36.
Well, F-spot is -compared to all other photo-managing programs I've ever seen- the best to find my pictures. So I thought it would be totally awesome if a lighter version of f-spot could start when you want to upload it.

Can't change naming conventions of files imported through F-Spot
Written by pHr34kY the 18 Mar 09 at 01:42. New
When importing photos into F-Spot, it seems to use a static file naming convention based on the date the photo was taken (assuming it's from the EXIF tag):

$PHOTO_DIR$/YYYY/MM/DD/$FILENAME$

It's good to automatically sort a file tree by date, but a single static configuration wouldn't meet the needs of all users. For example, I personally prefer (and use):

$PHOTO_DIR$/YYYY/YYYY-MM-DD/HHhMMmSSs.JPG

F-Spot currently does not allow a user to configure the file tree structure of their photo library.

Solution #1: Add a config variable to specify the path
Written by pHr34kY the 18 Mar 09 at 01:42.
It would be nice if one could specify a custom filename convention based on the EXIF timestamp (or the file timestamp where no EXIF exists). One would also need to introduce a variable to enumerate multiple shots taken in a single second.

For example, two shots taken in the same second could be named as:

~/Photos/2009/2009-03-18/12h14m25s.JPG
~/Photos/2009/2009-03-18/12h14m25s-1.JPG

So, the config would be something like

~/Photos/%YYYY%/%YYYY%-%MM%-%DD%/%HH%h%MM%m%SS%E%.%EXT%

Where %E% is '-1', '-2' etc. and blank when no duplicates exist.

Solution #1: An option to adjust the speedof the screensaver slideshow
Written by Vanostaajen the 6 Mar 09 at 12:58.
Just add a button when in F-spot or in the screensaver which lets you choose between 3,5, 10, 20, 30, 60 or 120seconds between photos.

Solution #2: Hot key to interrupt and restart slide show, go backward or select a picture
Written by hdhfm the 18 Mar 09 at 22:53.
While in Screen saver mode I would like a hot key so that it is possible to interact with the screensaver without exiting screensaver mode. So that you could have a menu like

interrupt and restart (because you want to see the picture a bit longer)
back one picture (some one asks who was ...)
select one picture (to maybe change tags, orientation or ... in f-spot after screensaver was left)
