Not an idea
The F-Spot import window is confusing. As soon as a folder is selected it will start importing without any confirmation from the user. Every now and then I accidentally select my hard drive from the list, which results in F-Spot scanning the entire hard-drive and copying photos, screenshots, comics and other stuff wildly.
Also, natural workflow is from top to bottom. So I would like to be able to select the folder first and then decide whether or not to copy the files, attach tags, etc.
So please, have a confirmation button to start importing.

Although it is possible to select multiple photos in F-Spot (using Ctrl-click) for a single operation like emailing, it becomes difficult when your collection is very large (like hundreds of photos).

Won't implement
F-Spot is a relatively clumsy photo-manager. Some issues are:
1) It completely ignores my organization of photos into folders and imposes its own schemes and tries to make a duplicate copy of all photos to "import" it into the F-spot collection. Why can't the organizer respect the organization that the user already has and build up on that?
2) Image rendering is noticably slower than gThumb. Each image takes some time to fully rendered/are fuzzy.
3) In full screen mode, I'm forced to have some form of transition effect between images and the slideshow is jittery, including the fullscreen toolbar.
4) When I delete pics from outside (say, Nautilus), it doesnt autoremove pics from db the next time I run it.
5) F-spot manager does not open when image is opened from Nautilus.
gThumb is so much better in all these aspects. Moreover, you can also choose to work with your collection in Nautilus if you feel like, without having to open the photo manager every time you need to touch your photos.
A research team from CMU came up with a way to repair photos by patching missing/dodgy sections with similar ones from other photos.
I propose we build it into our photo tools so that users are able to automatically fix their pictures in a natural looking way automatically. Granted they may end up with a few foreign trees in the photo, or the shoes might not match at the end, but users would not be able to determine the real photo.
Neither OSX nor windows seems to do this yet, but it has many practical applications. More information is available here:
Scene Completion Using Millions of Photographs (Thanks Ubuwu for finding it)
When I import my photos to F-Spot it always changes the time in the EXIF-information. Every single file is edited. F-Spot should not do this, since it is importing, not modifying, which I ordered. I did not find any way to prevent it from doing so. Not even setting the files read-only.
I have a system with windows xp and ubuntu. In windows I use Windows Live Gallery to organize all my photos using tags. When I import all my photos with f-spot, the program shows for example:
Family/Peter/Party
But when I put the tags in Windows Live Gallery, tags appear like this:
