Here are the most popular ideas ever about Dolphin. |

"Administrator mode" for Dolphin/Nautilus

ATM it is very uneasy to edit system files as root with a GUI.
E.g. if you want to edit files in /etc, /boot/ etc... you have to go to the console, get root and edit the files either with nanno or with "sudo gedit" (GNOME) or "sudo kate" (KDE).
It would be a good idea to integrate a "Administrator mode" button or something like this with policykit backend into nautilus/dolphin.
I think for nautilus is something lika that underways, but for dolphin not.
To access root-only directories a question while entering the dir would be ok, but for editing files e.g this is not enough.
Other solution would be - every time I don't have the rights to do something (save /etc/samba/smb.conf e.g.) the systema asks me for the password.

Kubuntu : Dolphin encryption by default doesnt work

In Dolphin one of the default options for a folder or file is to encrypt it. However kgpg is not installed by default so when you try it tells you that it cant encrypt it.
Personally, I dont think there's any need for an encryption option by default, but whether or not there's a need for it, if youre going to offer it by default surely it should be a real availability.

Add quick archival options to right-click menu in Dolphin

I recently migrated to Kubuntu Intrepid from Linux Mint, which uses GNOME. When I right-clicked on an archive, I had the option to "extract here". When I had a bunch of files selected, I could right-click to easily make an archive.
Both of those right-click menu options were simple, but very, very helpful. I don't have either of those commands available in Dolphin. Why not add them in?

easy to continue copying files in dolphin like in konqueror

this is really great thing in konqueror - for ex when you copy a big file from another computer in the network, and for any reason, transfer is not completed, next time you try to copy the same file into the same directory, it asks you if you'd like to continue the transfer, so you dont have to wait another time to finishing the transfer
in dolphin i miss this function :( could it be implemented?

Dolphin should split view instead of starting new window

Basically this is the "same" idea as force Nautilus to open in new tab instead in new window, just for Kubuntu.
-------------
Dolphin has split view option which is even better than tabs as you can move your files much easier from folder to folder.
So when I have my Dolphin open and I want to open another Dolphin the first Dolphin should just split view to a folder that I opened with the second one.
If there is already a split view opened in Dolphin it should add a new tab instead, then split view, then tab again...
I hope you get the picture.
And if I close split view in both tabs they should be merged in one split view.

on large screens there is a plenty of space for main area in dolphin
it can be split into two smaller areas
what if each one of them could be splitted once again?
for ex i would have one area on left with my home dir and on right - two more, this would be very usefull when you have to move files between more than two directories

pyRename as part of Dolphin

I often work with files and directories with Dolphin and have the need to rename a lot of files in the same manner.
pyRename is e.g. a nice tool for that, easy to use and with powerful features.
However, it sucks to just go to the k-menu, open pyRename, navigate it to the directory that I have already open in Dolphin, and then, finally be able to start renaming.

I found that krename in kubuntu-64 repositories is still V3.0.14, while a suse-guy tells me he has
1. V 4.0
2. which integrates nicely in Dolphin!
