Save/Open Dialog Should Remember Maximize State
Written by zalluth the 27 Sep 11 at 14:17. Related project: Gnome. Not an idea
In Ubuntu 11.04, save/open dialog cannot remember the maximize state, when I maximize the dialog, the dialog is maximized but return unmaximized when I reopen it again, that because the maximize button on it is created by compiz window decorator, and the maximize button is not available when using the ordinary gnome desktop. So it may be better for Ubuntu to have the modificated version of save/open dialog (GTKFileChooser) that could remember maximize state by default.

Solution #1: Include Esekeyd in Ubuntu by Default and Send Notification Using Libnotify
Written by zalluth the 28 Sep 11 at 06:40.
Using esekeyd can change the volume level when playing fullscreen game, however, I think more of users do not know this. But, changing the volume only, could not get the user notified. So, some script may be needed to send libnoty message to current active ubuntu session, but I don't know how to...

Compiz Workaround Plugin: Legacy Fullscreen Support should be enable by default
Written by zalluth the 28 Sep 11 at 06:56. Related project: Compiz. Not an idea
I interested to play Spiral Knights game in Ubuntu, this game support fullscreen playing, however the game return windowed after closing. So, I should reconfigure the game to be in fullscreen every time before playing. It was annoying, and it happen in Natty with Unity Session. So, I think it was related to compiz. After looking hours for what compiz plugin that cause the fullscreen game to be windowed, I found that compiz workaround plugin -> legacy fullscreen support was not enabled by default. So I enabled it and the game can now to start in fullscreen..

Customizable login window that can beat Windows 7 login window appearance
Written by zalluth the 30 Sep 10 at 02:45. Global category: Quality. New
I really love Ubuntu. I want it to be more beautiful and more customizable than Windows. So it maybe very nice to have more customizable login window that can beat Windows login window. With more customizable login window, we can enjoy the beautiful login window as beautiful as Windows login window. We can also have the user picture displayed very big like in Windows login window. No border around user list. No gtk based window for user list, that make it ugly like classic style login window.

Solution #1: Login Window is Written in HTML, CSS, and Javascript
Written by zalluth the 30 Sep 10 at 02:45.
Login Window seems to be more customizable if it is written in HTML, CSS, and Javascript. The login window seems to need backend program running that controlled by it's login window that written in HTML, CSS, and Javascript.

Solution #2: Include Fallback Key or Button
Written by zalluth the 2 Oct 10 at 11:38.
Fallback key or button is necessary when the login window is unreadable or the user wants to type the username manually when the username field is unavailable in login window theme.

When the fallback feature is disabled, the user cannot type the hidden user or dangerous user, root for example.

Solution #4: Already implemented - gnome login manager uses themes
Written by cyprys the 16 Oct 10 at 14:32.
Login window is already using gdm_greeter themes which you can download from: http://art.gnome.org/themes/gdm_greeter - you can also find a detailed installation guide there.

Add contextual menu in recent documents
Written by zalluth the 6 Nov 10 at 11:41. Related project: Gnome. New
In windows, we can do right click on recent documents, such as: open with, send to, etc. It maybe helpful if Ubuntu user can do it on Ubuntu recent documents...

Solution #2: Left-side button
Written by Lachu the 6 Nov 10 at 16:10.
Instead of opening with right mouse click contextual menu, implement just a left-side button. User can do not click on menu item, but on button.

Also add a space(nonclickable area) on right of this button to avoid misfortunes.

The idea will:
* made contextual menu more accessible for non technical users(See KDE4 interactive icon's corners).
* been more accessible with menu (imagine I have opened contextual menu by right-clicking - how to select item from menu, if it will be hidden beyond contextual menu)

2 Options to Lock the Screen
Written by zalluth the 6 Nov 10 at 12:42. Related project: Gnome. Already implemented
In Windows, there are 2 options to log in to the system, using classic login window, or the normal login window. These 2 options are used too for locking the screen. In Ubuntu, when we choose to lock the screen, so we press any key or move the mouse, the screensaver unlock window open, so we must choose switch user to to show the gdm login window. So, it maybe good to have another option to unlock the locked screen with gdm login window without choosing to switch user.
Gdm login window is more customizable then screensaver unlock window..
We can immediately switch user with it.. With screensaver unlock window, we must choose switch user to show gdm login window and then switching to other user...

Update Notifier is Less Informative
Written by zalluth the 26 Oct 10 at 11:30. Related project: Update manager. New
When Ubuntu checking updates or downloading them in the background, update notifier just show package manager is running. So, I don't know whether it is checking updates or downloading them.

Solution #1: Add Some Informative Message
Written by zalluth the 26 Oct 10 at 11:30.
Honestly, I'm using Windows beside my Ubuntu. When it is downloading updates, the update icon in notification area show such this message on mouse over (downloading updates 10%). I think, adding some informative message in update notifier will make it more informative. Exp:
- Checking updates 1/50
- Downloading security updates 10%
- Downloading backport updates 10%
- Downloading updates 10%
- Etc.. and everything is up to you all... Thanks

Solution #2: Add Button to Interrupt Running Update in the Background
Written by zalluth the 26 Oct 10 at 11:37.
When checking updates or downloading them is running in the background, I need sometimes to stop it for some reason, exp: installing some other program manually.... In that case, I cannot stop this, and Synaptic or Update Manager says something like "**** locked ***" without giving me a working solution... So it maybe very helpful to add a contextual menu on mouse over above update notifier to stop checking updates or downloading updates that run in the background.... Thanks..Sorry for my bad English...

Solution #3: Allow user to throttle bandwidth
Written by Jon Monreal the 7 Nov 10 at 15:50.
In addition to above solutions, allow the user to choose how much bandwidth update manager can use. This would allow those with a sufficiently fast connection to do things such as watch a video and get the updates at the same time, instead of having to pause the updates completely in order to watch the video.

This would, of course, be optional.

Yelp and other Man Page Should be More Accessible
Written by zalluth the 26 Oct 10 at 12:34. Global category: Accessibility. New
Yelp(Some help viewer in Ubuntu) already has the ability to find text in the help content. But when I type "man something" in terminal, I cannot find text in the help content. Also, some help page may contains very many content and sections, so I must scroll my keyboard up and down or scroll my mouse manually to go to some section. Then yelp and other Man Page Viewer (graphical on non-graphical) should have more usable features...

Solution #1: Add Accessibility Features
Written by zalluth the 26 Oct 10 at 12:34.
It maybe helpful to add these accessibility features in all Ubuntu help viewer (graphical and non-graphical), such as:
- The easy way to navigate through sections
- Find text in help content (non-graphical man page)
- Shortcut Information (Press q to quit, F3 to find, etc)
- Etc

Archive Manager Install Wizard for Unarchiver of Some Archive Type not Installed
Written by zalluth the 30 Sep 10 at 02:08. Related project: Archive Manager. New
Archive Manager can open all type of archives, but if the additional archive unarchiver program is not installed yet, the archive manager automatically run the wizard to install the needed program, such as unrar, etc.
Example: Totem can also open many type of multimedia format, if it cannot open file because codec is not installed, it will run the wizard to install the codec.
