caps lock on panel

Let's have prominent Caps Lock and Num Lock warning indicators on the top panel by default. Evil modern low profile keyboards make it too easy to accidentally switch Caps on and those of us stuck with these flat things could greatly benefit from a visual cue.

What do you love of Windows?

It could be dangerous for my stats... but I need to mention that...
In real world 90% of PCs are using Windows, nowadays fewer people use it because of vista, but Windows XP is dangerous..
This idea propose to create a place where the people can tell us, "What things are using, and likes about windows". There, we can see the real things that the people wants, things that Ubuntu does, o doesn't do.
"The Windows eXPeriencie". People like things that are more easy to do, and more beautiful to see in Windows, these things We know, but not all things, simply things that we don't think.
Remember, don´t kill me, be "open", open your mind and remember it, UBUNTU is for human people, then, is neccessary that Ubuntu be easy and intuitive like Windows is for donkeys.
Easy like Windows XP (never Vista XD), beautiful like Apple, someday..it will be Ubuntu.
PD: Ubuntu have things better that Windows, but the people have to say what things they like them, because the people don't know what things have o no Ubuntu and GNU/Linux.

Already on my todo list. There will be a separate wine-gecko package in Intrepid as a Recommends: of Wine. This package has to go in multiverse since Gecko still requires Visual Studio to build.

synaptic has very frustrating interface next it doesn't
mark dependencies by its own,
More silent installation of packages.
Packages ordering should be refined like themes,system applications and utilities,network related,fun/games etc
old libraries and external/third party libraries
too many dialogs makes things worst.
much better dialogs.i mean i don't want to see library files
all library needed should be installed minimal fuss with
libraries.
i don't want to understand jargon what library does what function,in turn its useless even if i understand.
better versioning and info.
better add/remove dialogs.by size,usage etc

Brainstorm: Restrict idea submission

Currently anyone can post ideas on Brainstorm and unfortunately some *useless* ideas clutter the view for voters and sometimes get high ranking.
For example some ideas about miscellaneous things(such as replacing the Example folder, show network transfer speed and others) have more votes than other ideas which are concerned with the usability/compatibility/etc of Ubuntu.
one way to fix this is to add some restrictions on posting ideas(not anyone can post, only people with certain *credibility*), I feel that people need guidance on when to promote or demote an idea.
May be one solution is to publish a list of possible future enhancements and bug fixes(by Cannonical) then users can vote on those.

Keep Boot Data in RAM While Off; Fast Access When Started
What I want to know is if it is possible to store data in the RAM of a computer and keep it there while the computer is off. If this is possible in any way (preferably on most hardware today or on DDR2 RAM), then wouldn’t it be great if startup speed could be dramatically increased due to the faster read speeds of RAM compared to Hard Disk Drive read speeds?
I think this should be implemented; store boot up data in the RAM while the computer is off and default to check the RAM for this data first, and if there is something there, access it first. Some people may not have enough RAM to store all of their boot up data, but this can be solved by storing parts of it in the RAM (say, one section of loading instead of randomly scattering it between RAM and HDD, because that would completely defeat the purpose. At least part of the boot-up sequence would be much faster.
The easiest and fastest place to implement this would be in Linux, notably Ubuntu Linux. Because of the Freedom and open-source nature of the OS, it would be easy to put something that was well-coded to good use.
In a dual-boot setup (because there are plenty of people who have to have Windows and decide to dual-boot), the alternate OS can clear the RAM and continue with its normal startup process while that boot data is recopied to the RAM the next time Linux is started up and shut down.
I do not know if this is possible or if it is, has been implemented already, but I wanted to get it out there so at least I know the idea is floating around online.

I don't know if this is possible/worth it,but at least here in Romania,Yahoo Messenger is being used by absolutely everyone.It's a big pain in the *** to use Pidgin.Sure,it can send (and recieve!)files now,but webcam,photo share and other features are missing.GYachI looks promising,but it's interface scares the user out.
Can't Canonical make a partnership with Yahoo to at least get part of the code,in order to make a compatible Yahoo messenger client for Linux/Unix?
I don't really care if the final product(if it will exist) will be GPL'ed or not,I just want to use it(as I use Skype,but unfortunately that's not so popular,only 3 contacts in my list)
Sorry for my preety crappy english

in xorg.conf in the section
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Touchpad"
EndSection
if we add this line at the end of section
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Touchpad"
...
Option "SHMConfig" "on"
EndSection
and we make a file "/etc/udev/rules.d/01-touchpad.rules"
in which are wrote:
ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="input", ID_CLASS="mouse", RUN+="/usr/bin/synclient TouchpadOff=1"
ACTION=="remove", SUBSYSTEM=="input", ID_CLASS="mouse", RUN+="/usr/bin/synclient TouchpadOff=0"
and restart X, every time you connect a usb mouse it disable the touchpad and when disconnect usb mouse it enable touchpad
put it in an option in Preferences, disabled by default??

Hard Disk (partitions) should have better names (labels). For example, I have three 120GB Hard Disks, and Labels are "120.0 GB Media" for all 3 disk. It would be better "sda1", "sdb1", "sdc1"...
Also, because of labels, it's confusing to manually mount and unmount.
Example of label mismatch:
120.0 GB Media --> Label on Desktop
disk-1 --> Label in /media/
sda1 --> Record in /etc/fstab
Thank you & sorry on bad English

If Ubuntu was available in a beautiful package, would you/anyone pay a token amount for it? The box would also include a small printed manual.
I would like to hear your opinion and please vote on the forum post.

The Desktop is usually used as temporary workspace, with anything else being clutter and distraction.
Most of the time, the desktop is covered by active application windows, so anything that resides on the desktop is hard to reach.
Also - this is duplication of functionality - the places menu provides an easy access to drives, which is not obscured by the windows.
