Don't show the fast user swith applet if there is just one user
Written by wladston the 23 May 08 at 01:52. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
After all, it takes up a lot of space, creates clutter and it's absolutely of no use for people that got just one user on the computer.

Firefox - offer to kill firefox instead of restart the system
Written by wladston the 22 May 08 at 17:26. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Sometimes, when I try to open firefox, I get this error

Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system.

I propose to change that, including a button - "Close firefox now" :

Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process. [Close firefox now]

The cover art plugin is great, but sometimes I have it download wrong cover arts.

There should be a way to remove the wrong cover art- possible an "X" button that shows up when the mouse is over the cover art image.

Make file icons a little transparent while drag-n-dropping
Written by wladston the 24 Mar 08 at 22:57. Category: Look and Feel. Related to: Nothing/Others. Implemented
(this idea was finally implemented in Hardy using compiz fusion, so if you are a mod, please mark the idea as "Done")

When user drags a file or folder, make it a little bit transparent to help visualize where it's being dropped at.

That is for people who start pidgin automatically on boot time and always have to close the buddy list when the system boots.

The Weather Repot panel should provide a 5-day forecast
Written by wladston the 23 May 08 at 02:04. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Currently,. it only shows the actual weather status. It would be a great addition, I wouldn't have to go to a website to check the weather anymore.

This can be done like that - when the user clicks the panel icon, a list shows under it with the forecast for the next 5 days.

Undo or ctrl-z all the fields on Gnome
Written by wladston the 26 Jun 08 at 23:26. Category: System. Related to: Gnome. New
Most (or all) of the editable fields where you can put information aren't undoable. My idea is to always be able to ctrl-z any settings field you have just changed.

Physical Ubuntu Hardware Store
Written by wladston the 11 Apr 08 at 15:39. Category: Marketing. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
* It will help make money to aid development

* It will create stronger bond between Ubuntu and the user base

* It will help to spread and popularize Ubuntu and other open source hardware

* It will make it easier for people to buy Ubuntu-compatible hardware, and will be one more motivation for manufacturers to start making their hardware linux-compatible

Drag-n-drop a network folder should mount it locally
Written by wladston the 19 May 08 at 21:48. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
When the user drags and drop a network folder from the smb:// locations, Nautilus issues an error. My suggestions - when the user does that, open the "connect to server" dialog and mount the network folder, creating an icon on the desktop.

User should be able to export music in a selective way to an SD card, Music player, or USB drive.

This could be done by creating a dynamic playlist, that can be filled either randomly, or by genre, by artist, and limiting the playlist by minutes/megabytes/tracks (after all you can't always put your entire collection on your music device).

Please, also take some time to read the attached bug before voting (I had the idea before brainstorm was launched).

This is related to Idea #3409 and Idea #3156, but it's not a dupe.

Mark Ideas as "read" like on google reader
Written by wladston the 1 Mar 08 at 02:58. Category: Brainstorm. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
As you go reading the ideas on the Brainstorm website, go marking then as "read", so you don't have to read then again.

They do it very nicely on: reader.google.com

Offer paid support plans to desktop end-users
Written by wladston the 18 May 08 at 17:48. Category: Others. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Sometimes, the end users search help pages, posts on the forum, on the IRC, on the launchpad answers section, but still, he is unable to find an answer to his problem, and is left all alone, what adds a lot of frustration. (has happened to me lots of times)

The cheaper support plan for Ubuntu costs $250/year. My suggestions is to offer an email-only support plan, that allows the user to open like 5 tickets/month, for a very low price, say, $5/month.

Rhythmbox : automatically update the music library
Written by wladston the 9 Mar 08 at 04:42. Category: Multimedia. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
I have a music folder, and I put all my musics to it. When new music is added, I have to "re-import" my music folder for the musics to get added.

Would be great if Rhythmbox monitored my music folder for new files and automatically added them.

EDIT : There is a way to tell Rhythmbox to do it on the Settings menu - So the complete idea - Either do it by default or at the first run, when asking for the music library folder, have a checkbox for this feature.

CPU temperature monitor to the CPUFreq toolbal applet
Written by wladston the 25 May 08 at 00:30. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
The CPUFreq applet for the gnome toolbar currently can only show you the clock for the CPUs.

I propose that it's able to also display the CPUs temperatures. It doesn't need to show the temperature by default, but it should at least have an option to view the cpu temperature.

OggConvert should support bath transcoding
Written by wladston the 21 Aug 08 at 21:37. Category: Multimedia. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
Guys,

OggConvert is a great app, but it can only convert ONE music at the time .... so If I have a music directory with 100 wma or mp3 musics, I would have to convert then ONE BY ONE ...

please fix this, allow the user to specify a directory as a source (with subdirectory search)

Be able to configure multiple keyboards
Written by wladston the 18 Jul 08 at 02:38. Category: System. Related to: Nothing/Others. New
I have a laptop with an english keyboard, that is also used on a docking station, that has a portuguese keyboard. Every time I change the "mode of use", I have to change the keyboard settings.

My idea is to detect with keyboard I am using, and use a proper configuration for it (en-intl or pt-br).

After playing with this site :

and seeing that it allows to restringe the year the music if from with sliders, and filter dynamically combining calm/energic and dark/positive variations, while also restringing the musical stiles ... AND being alble to choose the tempo ... and being able to mark for "hits" or/and "non-hits" ... I was thinking ... wouldn't it be a good idea if a similar feature were incorporated to Rythmbox ?

I strongly suggest you guys to try the mentioned s
